    ... back to the volunteer house as we were going to UCC which is part of the childcare and teaching project. The guy that had set it up was a local who starting teaching children under a Mango tree as he felt it was important that all children get an education. He has now finally managed to get his own centre and funds it himself with the help of the volunteer program. He is very dependent on volunteers so its great to see them all ...

    ... have to be funded by the patient. One man who needed a full hip replacement was informed this would cost 10,000 dollars as all the materials are brought in from the US. His reaction gave no indication as to whether he would be able to pay, but Ebenezer, one of the students I was shadowing with, told me it was extremely unlikely, and that they see very few hip replacements in the hospital due to this prohibitive cost.

    ... just over $1 at home but the appreciation I got for doing this was huge. All the staff and a lot of the older kids just kept saying thank you, thank you, god bless. It’s such a strange concept that something so little can mean so much!

    This weekend we are going back to Cape Coast, I’m showing the new volunteers around! There will be no bags stolen this time though!! Till next time....

    ... events too. We couldn't make it for the opening day, but we promised him we would be of the next date.

    That Saturday, there was a big market bazaar at LCS, a month or so before Christmas. Hundreds of kiosk lined up on the sport field, with some amazing craft at all prices. Of course, Andrea wanted to buy everything and we had to be reasonable. Still we ended up with a few things for ourselves, and some gift to give.

    ... while Kiyo is taking a bye this year. The whole elementary school seems to be at the party where games, costume contest and trick or treats is planned. Etienne has a very good time and so am I, eating a great burger by the lovely pool. I feel like I am in a resort in Cuba for a moment.

    Then on Saturday, it is the staff party. This time, Kiyo is involved as a member of the Haunted and scary house Jodi, Tom and a few other teacher have planned and built. ...
