... castles dating back to the 1400's and new buildings with beautiful facades, it didn't feel like an island at all. This is the playground for Europeans to enjoy beach weather for summer holiday. ... It was amazing! We went almost to the very top, but the gondola up to the very top was closed due to high winds. And boy it was windy! The bus stopped several times where we could get off and walk around to see the volcanic rock. It was declared a UNESCO world heritage site and Spain’s highest point above sea level. The last volcanic eruption was in 1909 from the El Chinyero vent, which we saw!
