As we sit down to write this blog the sun has come out. Not the same when we left this morning, low clouds and rain. Well a couple days ago we were told by a lovely couple of a covered bridge in Madison county which they had seen that morning, they said this was the bridge used in the famous film. "The Bridges of Madison County" so we had to go, having been given ...

... Day long week-end, and today was a public holiday, and there were crowds of people everywhere. We had to join a traffic queue to drive up the loop road, the camping grounds all had out "no vacancy signs" and freedom camping is not allowed. In the end we gave up - did a u-turn and made our way down the mountain. We did see a deer on the way so that was some consolation. We maybe back in Tennessee later in the year and if so will try again.

So north we headed, out of ...

    • Met up with Jim and Darlene, who were with us on the Panama Canal cruise my sister and I took last November for lunch. They are staying in Ashville, NC so half way was Spruce Pines. We found a great restaurant for lunch.....Mountain View. It certainly lived up to their name.
    • On the way back to Boone, I stopped at Linville Caverns.
    • Next adventure was a trip to West Jefferson to go to the Ashe County cheese factory and get some ...

... After that I found my way to the Biltmore Estate. It’s a huge tourist attraction just outside of Asheville, built by George W. Vanderbilt starting in 1889. It took 6 years to complete. The place is gynormous. You have to drive about 5 km past the entrance before you even get to the house (it’s an 8000 acre property) and then it’s about another 10 kms to get back to the exit. I only visited ...

... come across a Black Bear up on Chimney Rock, but it is a rare occurrence. You may also see deer from time to time, and the usual smaller mammals.

Peregrine Falcon's are known to live on the cliffs. Wouldn't that be fun to see one whizzing by you at 200 mph. (Fastest Bird in flight).

Definitely a great spot to visit and to hike if you have the time.
