Restaurants menu is a little to be desired. And service levels have dropped since I was last there. But over all a nice hotel. Not too much to do close to the hotel.

... the air-conditioning is not really needed. Those coming here for the Feast this year are in for a real treat.

After our visit we drove back south, stopping at a large supermarket to buy some coffee. They wanted to offer me a cup and had run out of “real” coffee. It was interesting to see the mix of people and speculate on origins. Some were obviously Asian, a few were obviously African, ...

Plenty of rain first thing and overnight but cleared a little for essential supplies to be purchased from the minimart at the bottom of the road. Also, with the same idea ,were Anjali and her husband Gaetan who have recently relocated ,upon retirement, back to Mauritius from Australia. Anjali and Miranda were school chums in London and flat mates before they both moved abroad. So an impromptu lunch trip to a local pizzeria. All seems calm weather wise but ...

As wet sat enjoying a cool drink we reminisced on the last time we had visited Ile Aux cerfs, some 10 years ago whilst on an Indian Ocean/African Safari cruise. In 10 years there are a few more hawkers, sun beds, & water sport activities since our last visit, but the white sands and crystal waters are just as we remembered. There was one addition - a tree walk ...

... Saloni brought out some snacks and Jocelyn and I had a beer. Then we drove down to the ocean at southern tip of the island, to a town called Souillac where, they kindly invited me to a meal. They knew I like Indian food so they pricked a restaurant where that was available along with Chinese and Mauritian food too. The meal and the conversation was very enjoyable.

On the way back to their house we stopped at a bridge over the Rivère des Anguilles (Eel ...

Since colonial times, the economic engine of Mauritius has been the great sugar plantations which still occupy most of the arable land mass of the island. Many of the smaller roads cut narrow swathes through cane fields - and it is easy to get lost like ...
