From Venice we travelled, by train of course, to Milan and then over the Gothard Pass. Unfortunately the train was delayed a little so by the time we exited the tunnel at the top due to the lateness of the hour and the cloud cover it was a bit too dark. However, on the way up we were treated to some spectacular lake and mountain scenery as we ate out dinner in the restaurant car. Not as good as we had seen in Norway but still most spectacular. We passed by Lake Lugarno which reminded us both ...

Aarau, Aargau, Switzerland beaandrogerI had never thought of travelling to Zurich only to take part in the Street Parade. But back in 2008 some friends wanted me to go there and I did not regret it. It is a real special parade with many friendly people in a very nice city near the Lake Zurich. The central station was also decorated and used for the party, and during night time the big station hall became one of the largest dancing clubs in the world. I can only tell people to go there and enjoy the great ambiance!
Zurich, Zürich, Switzerland adson... that every other person I saw had a cigarette in his/her hand--and their standard diet? Meat and vegetables. Yeah. Perfect. Plus a good percentage of them also speak English and many do so fluently.
Here I was couchsurfing and (after an incredible amount of headache getting in contact) I stayed with a chap named Evert, an extremely straightforward, take-no-******** kind of guy; in other words, a man after my own heart. His occupation as he described ...
Zurich, Zürich, Switzerland jtbo... life time.

Tips:
1. Dont plan for the entire day because it is not worth it unless one goes with the small kids.
2. The food is not so great also. If it will be great, if one can pack some foods and have a small sort of picnic. There are lot of number benches below the shades of the trees, idle place for picnic. The kids will love the picnic.
3. If one is planning for a leisure day and a great place for kids to spend the day, then this is a idle place.

Zurich, Zürich, Switzerland sen1985Just a day trip to see this old city. Lots of brightly painted buildings with ornate oriel windows. Most of the windows were carved with scenes or fancy designs, sometimes painted, sometimes both. Lots of fountains and statues. Found a chocolate shop and pigged out.
Schaffhausen, Schaffhausen, Switzerland danandroz... rich. At least it was relatively pretty to walk around and soak in the atmosphere. We walked all around the Zürichsee, with pretty views all around, and also walked extensively around the quaint Altstadt, where our hostel was. Last night I met up with half a dozen other backpackers in our hostel and had a good time with them (and a cast iron flying pig) so that lightened my mood about Zürich ...
Zürich, Zürich, Switzerland wagonmakerOk, first some props...its really great to know that people are actually reading this blog and its not just some 90s throwback exercise in narcissim that will only ever be read by me and my family- so cheers! Its nice to know that people care where I am in the world cause Im the first to admit that sometimes the long group email comes into your inbox and you really cant be bothered. Anyway, Im now in Switzerland and still struggling with the German keyboards that change all the ...
Zürich, Switzerland amyhuva... it.

Notes on our way back from Lucerne: It is a lovely Old World city. The wooden bridge over the lake with its paintings of the history of Lucerne was really impressive and beautiful. Considering that it was done over 300 years ago is amazing. The Jesuit church, just a short walk from the end of the bridge, was just as impressive. The painted ceiling, the side altars, the main altar...WOW! It was glorious. Walking ...
