Old friends and new

Erin is one of, if not, the oldest friend I have. We met in fourth grade and have managed to keep in touch over the years. I blame Erin. And this little girl I played tag with in elementary school is now a mother of an adorable little boy. She and her husband Mike had Alysia two years ago and we had a wonderful ...

... footed in the Pacific Northwest, you don't think about where your water comes from. And reclaimed water? Yucky.
But here in the desert reclaimed water is what makes the golf possible. And in Arizona, golf is king.
Water courses through Phoenix like an Oregon holiday--wet and extravagant. I cringe to see man made ponds, lakes, waterfalls and rivers in this desert decorate developments like baubles on a tree.
But when you know they've ...

Arid Arizona

... Ouzo out, before we headed to possibly my favorite bar/club since Ive been away. It was called Dos Gringos and was an open air bar with loads of lights and things hanging, a massive Jenga, other bar type games, dance floor, just a good time place, oh and it was 10 drinks for 10 bucks, ouch!!! Needless to say we were there till close before finding our way home. Although a brief stop it was lots of fun.

The best laid plans ...

After Hawaii I had planned on flying into Los Angeles, both because it would be interesting to check out and I assumed it was the cheapest place to fly in to, but interestingly enough, the second reason proved to be false. All the cheapest flights I could find for some reason flew into Phoenix, Arizona, first and cost about $200 more than simply flying to Phoenix, so I decided to skip L.A. for now in interest of saving money, both ...

Starting point of our trip....

We started our trip from Tempe, Arizona (see how we currently lived there). Our goal was to find a new life and our destination was the south-west, southeast, and notrth-east sections of the United States.

So it was time to say our 'Good byes.'

The Apache Trail

... so it isn't like we'll have any issues getting back in time. We stop at Roosevelt Lake and walk a bit. It's an artificial lake, created by the Roosevelt Dam. The water is really high. There are plants sticking out of the water, and then I realize they are just the tops of these 10-foot bushes that I see around. We see quite a few boats; it's apparently a very popular recreation spot. There are lots of big, white pickups (Ford F150 or bigger) in the parking lot, and a few ...

Don finally gets to speak!

... there has to be a lot of it. I always wanted to see what is would be like to drive on Route 66. Now I have driven a portion, and I have to tell you, the nostalgia is better than the reality. Route 66 was the first main highway running from Chicago to Los Angeles. It passed through many small communities, not around them as highways do today, and was entirely paved by the mid 1920s. The passage of time, modern interstate highways ...
