Breakfast at yet another panaderia, omelet this time. Then Mike whisked me off to a parts shop, new mirrors and a new spare tube, job sorted.
My eyes have been giving me problems when I wear my lenses, I think there is contamination so I binned everything, I had also lost some lenses so I went to the Chipichape Centro Commercial (mall to you and me) for some new eyes and hygiene kit.
Cali is supposed to be the silicone valley of South America and they are all supposed to ...
Cali, Colombia pearcy... Wasserfalls. Suuuper! Dann wurde gegrillt was das Zeug hält. Es gab leckere Spiesse, Maiskolben, eine halbe Kuh am Stück (naja fast) und was weiss ich nicht alles. Musik ...
Cali, Colombia doscompletos... disappointed. The guidebooks went on and on about how Calians were addicted to salsa and that virtually every bar was also a salsateca. So, Friday night, we head out to the nearby strip of bars on Avenida Sexta to check out what's happening. Nothing. Most of the bars/clubs were empty, with staff on the pavement urging people to enter. And at those bars that did have people in it, there was not much salsa or dancing of any kind going on. This ...
Cali, Colombia lillyjon... urban sprawl which you can have enough of after a couple of hours. Even the famed Cali nightlife was a bit of a letdown , to be fair possibly because it wasn´t the weekend ... I had been warned that it´s rather quiet during the week and indeed it proved to be so , both in the 6th Avenida and the Juanchito areas , the two supposed hotspots after-dark.Went out Thursday with a big group from the hostel and whilst we were still able to "make our own craic" as two Irish girls liked ...
Cali, Colombia garygapyear... charitably offered me free coffee and even the person who I asked where the nearest cyber cafe how to get there was willing to direct me in person. I bought a fruit drink blended smooth type thing for a snack while walking around on the first day and after paying and telling the lady it was delicious and the best fruit I had tasted (maybe a white lie but she was a nice old lady) she graciously smiled and filled my cup back up again for free against my own will. On top of ...
Cali, Colombia cweigand... has Wireless access so I can Skype call my family tomorrow morning (maybe even video call). After driving the cab driver up the wall (he got lost easily) and checking about 10 different hotels I found 'the one'. The hotel Santiago had rooms at $40 (20 quid for a top hotel...not bad) with wireless internet, a roof pool, a sauna and room service (sheer bliss). As I had a cold coming on after the hammock antics I made a beeline to the sauna (boy was that good) and then swam in a ...
Cali, Colombia rolls... any important documents in it. Keep it in your pocket. If they snatch your bag, they won't get anything important. If you carry one, keep it cross or in front of you. It will be a clear target if it's on your side. My cousin was riding on the back of her mom's motorcycle and another person on a motorcycle rode by and snatched it. It's that easy and even easier if you're walking. Don't become a target. If you are a ...
Cali, Colombia doscompletos... headed back to cali (took 4 hours, as the bus stopped at numerous places) and had two really nice colombian guys sitting next to me, who were travelling to pasto, where there's a couple of beautiful lakes in the nearby area. i was kicking myself when they invited me to join them, as i so wanted to go but i just don't have the time. would have been quite fun to go camping with them...damn!
Periera, Colombia micachina... bag in my lap. “What the fu..? What’s this?” But before I can even look at it, or even think about it another guy comes in, a Latino, and flashes his badge, not coincidentally showing me his pistol in the process. Uh oh. He asks to see my passport. I show it to him, and he takes it of course, then lets me ...
