The clerk said it’s only an 8-euro ($10.80) fine if you don’t feed the meter, so I opted not to put any money in last night after parking.

Your vehicle will be supplied with a full tank of fuel and can be returned empty. On pickup the rental agent will charge you for a full tank of fuel. The price per liter charged by the rental agent may be higher than the price at the local service station. No refund for unused fuel."
