Ngapuna, Auckland, New Zealand bindannmalweg... the superman position and got set the free fall was awesome. The fall lasted about a minute before we were suddenly jerked upright by the opening of the parachute. A huge sigh of relief hit as the instructor shouted, “we got good news mate, the chute appears to be working.” As we slowly floated toward the ground we were treated to a truly awesome view of Lake Taupo which contained beautiful mountains and rugged green hills. A few minutes ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand brettandjen... driver, on the journey back was a legend. He said Kia-ora (welcome in Maori) in 52 languages. We also sang the national anthems of loads of different countries and to round it off sang "the wheels on the bus"!!! It was the greatest bus ride many of us had ever had. Mark was hilarious and a great guy (a bit insane!!) The whole day was fantastic, one of the best days in NZ so far. In the evening we went to the Lava Bar and had some drinks, chatted and played lots of free pool.
Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand leehorscraftOur time at Kuaotunu went really fast! Staying with Maureen and Murray was like staying at Grandma and Grandpa's house... they loved to feed us and the food was delish!(Not to mention we had a freezer full of Hokey Pokey ice cream bars at our disposal!- Hokey Pokey was invented in NZ and is creamy vanilla ice cream with spongy toffee bits! YUM!) In Whitianga (biggest town near Kuaotunu) we booked a "Cave Cruizer" boat tour. Since it's off season, it was ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand thatgirlkate... that we drank at dinner). Part of the reason why the tribe lived in that location was because of that natural spring and it became a large part of their culture. The whole experience was very fun and educational and I'm glad we chose this tribe because it wasn't very commercial so it seemed more natural. They were very sincere about sharing their lifestyle and culture with us.
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand jessnallie... laundry near the front office I put my washing on including my running gear and head to the showers. Warm, clean and highly refreshed the shower has done its job. Once dressed I explore the campsite and find that we are actually right next to quite a large geothermal mud pool which is where most of the eggy smell that has now filled my tent is eminating. The park has substntial facilities, a large multi unit kitchen for leather and rubber tramps alike, there is a substantial dining ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand onemanonedrum... warriors can be quite intimidating and it can be speculated that the this might be one of the reasons why the first Dutch explorer to discover NZ, Abel Tasman, decided not to explore it further and move on to more friendly territories after only a brief encounter with the locals. G's other hypothesis though is that he might have seen the prices at the local tour-operators and left in horror; hard to prove that theory though ;-) Talking about rugby, the All ...

Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand happysheep... This is so you can experience Rainbow Springs by night as well as during the day. After the Kiwi Encounter, we went up to Hells Gate Spa to have a relaxing dip in the mud pools and sulphur pools. Later in the evening, we went back to Rainbow Springs to see the park at night. It was pretty good, although it was impossible to photograph the kiwis - mainly because I still don't really ...
