Smelly City!

After a long lovely day from Auckland we arrived at Rotorua. The smell from the geysers was abit too much in some places but we got use to it!
Rotorua has alot of thermal activity and there is quite a few things to do here.
First thou, it was getting dark so we found a carpark near the lake to spend the night. It was a nice little place, it was more of a rest area as it had toilets and a bbq shelter. We werent ...

Smelly Luxury

... the price and he said $27, wow awesome, ill stay, i later found out that was the price for the party hostel where most of the rest of the bus were staying. Id landed a place of luxury for the same price.

I was given a fluffy towel, wow i have a fluffy towel for 2 night, yipee, that was so nice after using my flumsy travel towel for the past year, i could now use a nice warm cosey towel. The whole place had under floor heating, so i was ...

New Zealand or bust - location 10

... you learn as a kid from your mother about not getting dirty and that's exactly what ran through my mind as I lowered myself into bubbling mud! It was nice, in a dirty sort of way (literally), we had 20 mins of warm mud to cleanse the skin before an ice cold shower and 2 sulphur baths (1 hot and 1 boiling!). It was lovely to just sit in the hot water especially after being flung about in warm water earlier in the zorb - just the tonic for the body. We met up with the ...

Day 12a Mitai Maori Village

... to the concert and cultural display. Both Maori men and woman sang, danced, and showed us exercises, weapons, and their culture. The chief explained his moko which incorporated four birds: a bat, parrot, owl, and kiwi. He also had a very extensive moko on his legs and lower torso including his bum. He said it signified water and the lines and curves followed the muscle. It ...

The Highest Raftable WATERFALL in the WORLD!

I'm really not joking. It smelt like the whole town had got a batch of rotten eggs, consumed them all and had been sitting on the toilet ever since. As we got closer and closer to the town the smell in the bus got stronger and stronger and by the time we reached the middle I had decided to stay on the bus and return to Auckland. I was however persuaded to get off and put up with the smell for a few days! And even came round to the idea of returning. Of my own free will. Despite ...

The Rotten Egg smell and other tales

... that time. If I knew about that, I would have slept one more hour and carried my whole bottle of body-wash to pour down the geyser when I wanted. They should call it Geyser Party - BYOS (Bring Your Own Soap). Anyways, apart from that, the bubbling stuff was really good - especially photogenic since it has created a kaleidoscope of colors in the soil. A picture speaks a 1000 words, so check out the attached thousands of words on this topic.

Rotorua - Day 2

Hi All, Here are some shots of day 2 of our stay in Rotorua. It was a bit of a non-extreme day but enjoyable non-the-less. We firstly visited the Blue and Green Lakes (couldn't quite make out the colour difference but the scenery was as beautiful as many other spots we have visited).  Secondly we visited the Buried Village. This was a village that we buried after a vulcanic eruption in the 1800s. It also ...

Rotorua

Hi everyone Well we got to Rotorua in the afternoon. Rotorua is the most popular of NZ's thermal regions. This doesn't really hit you until you park up, get out of the car and get slapped in the face by the stench of rotten eggs. (David: Great for hiding deadly *****! (Lois: Yes!)) After a while, you get used to it. You have to. (David: Unlike *****.(Lois: yes, husbandy ***** indeed!)) Maori consider Rotorua as sacred and so a third of Maori's live here. Rotorua is also popular though ...

Rotorua (Day 2)

... Huka Falls from the ground. Wow! As we descended into Taupo we both were blown away with the beauty. Snow capped mountains surrounded this huge crater lake. The town was so quaint and peaceful. We stayed Twin Peaks Motel which was right on the lake with terrific views. It was quite cold that night and we only had one small space heater so the electric blankets were a nice treat.

... s right. Most of the stupid little critters end up in their cousin's or aunt's sticky trap and can't complain, cause they don't have a mouth! So to sum things up: glowworms are canibalistic arseless maggots with shiny poo. While in Waitomo we also went to a pioneer and farm show held by a ...
