... day of traveling. (Literally, we are traveling along with the sun, so we'll have a few extra hours of Wednesday to deal with. I can post from my blackberry, and I can send pictures as well, and they would be posted at the end of this. Okay breakfast is ready, and we have a lot of work to try and do in the next two or three hours, so... thanks for checking this thing, and goodbye for now.
Mori Village, Andhra Pradesh, India astrosoup... A few steps from the market, Martha, a very bossy administrator here at the school passed us on her motorbike. She warned us once more not to eat anything prepared in the village, especially anything fried in oil. We promised her we wouldn't, but as she drove off, Anil was already purchasing some snacks for us from a local vendor. We each sampled a tasty vegetable and a Chile pepper, both fried in oil. They were very delicious. We wandered a ways into the next village when Anil ...
Mori Village, Andhra Pradesh, India astrosoup... a few of the items. I am looking bored, in order to keep the price down. If you show to much interest, the items cost more. ;) Tomorrow is a big day. We will be touring the countryside, visiting local kids clubs. By the way, I posted a youtube video of a ride I took in an autorickshaw. It doesn't at all capture how crowded the streets are, or how close we get to the vehicles next to us, but it gives an idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pO4kabg kFE
Mori Village, Andhra Pradesh, India astrosoupMonday was our first day of our routine schedule for this week. For those of you that are unclear whether we're at an orphanage, hospital or school, I will clear it up for you. It's all three. The facilities here are really nice. The walls and floors are beautifully constructed, and the school building is four stories high. The campus is one of the nicest places in this remote area of Eastern India. There are three main facilities here: The Riverside School holds classes for about 370 ...
Mori Village, Andhra Pradesh, India astrosoupHop off the bus and get to work! We had breakfast, a quick tour of the campus, then we went to a house dedication in the village. This was a very interesting experience. After racing through the village in the school bus, we hopped off and wandered into the neighborhood until we arrived at a brand new, four-room house wedged between a few brick huts with thatch roofs. It was just built for one of the teachers at the school ...
Mori Village, Andhra Pradesh, India astrosoupThe trip to Delhi took about 45 hours and apperantly, foreigners don't take the train for such a long distance, they fly. It was an okay trip - Reena and I had our own berths (just a padded bunk amongst a bunch of other bunks - no private "rooms" or anything like that) so we were reasonably comfortable.
Dat dus even kort ...
Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India el8... what most people would do under the circumstances. I stood there waving it in the air, as though it was the most matural thing in the world, hoping that someone passing by might stop and assist.... Eventually one truck did stop, mainly because we were blocking the entrace to a road leading to a quarry which he was trying to access. He got out the cab and came over. We tried asking him if it was ok to carry on driving. Not sure what his ...
Vijayawada, India jcbeep... TV or stereo that they had tucked away in their hut.) It was hard for me to understand how they could go without meals, but still possess these luxuries. Ravi, the leader of the ARV (Association of Relief Volunteers) group we worked with, broke down the village politics to us on the first day. Apparently class is a big issue in India, as the people we were building houses for were called the Dalits (or untouchables of India ...
