... and grains) have, in varying quantities, different proportions of these essential nutrients. As source of protein, these are easily assimilated by the body. However, second-hand sources are often more difficult to digest and are of less value to the body's metabolism. It all makes sense to me. I also discovered that the croutch area of your Ali Baba Afghani trousers are great for catching food spillages. You were supposed to eat in silence but there was always ...
Trivandrum, Kerala, India inoursuitcase... me in the slightest, give me a table, Ill read my ridiculous book about the 'Six Sacred Stones' and suspend my disbelief until 25 mins pass and I am finally offered a menu. Thats fine with me mate. But the families, who have brought their gear in suitcases, as this is a proper holiday for them, expect service, promptly. They are not lugging their entire universe around with them across Asia like yours truly. They have no stamina. I'm staying in ...
Varkala, Kerala, India awfullook... be pushed inwards with gusto by the constant stream of chai, coffee & curry sellers. Being near the carriage door also meant that, as is the Indian tradition, there was a continuous soundtrack of men clearing their throats, readying themselves for the open window in the adjoining corridor to release the contents of their mouth like a missile. Spitting is a national pastime, it's often quite a coloured affair as on every street corner there are stalls selling betel-nut ...
Varkala, Kerala, India aoifenim... The rain got heavier and heavier, until my sheet sleeping bag and clothes were drenched and my hair was dripping wet. At this point everyone in the dorm leapt up and dragged their bags into the only sheltered area. It was obvious the heavy rain wasn't going to stop soon, so we all found somewhere to lie in the very small dry space that we had. I was squashed inbetween two people, on the ...
Varkala, India tayka... s end and a small boat-ride to Vivekananda's rock and the towering statue of Thiruvalluvar next to it. A few hours later we would be back on the bus and hoping to reach Thiruvananthapuram by night. Of course, on the way we will pass a temple and a palace. As for now, I have seen enough of them and am sure to get lost in the countless rooms of the palace as soon as my head hits the pillow. And maybe wake up screaming ...
Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala, India p.rajesh... into an Ambassador taxi to travel in style to our beachfront abode, where we intend to hole up and relax until the hippies, the ethnic clothing stalls, the Bob Marley music, and the offers of cheap drugs, drive us demented and move us on. At the moment though we think we'll be most happy here, especially given the fact that there are Kingfisher beer signs everywhere. The Rough Guide threats of heavy tax duties ...
Varkala, India andyandem... felt like drawing again, to the sound of the ocean we eat fresh mango and at night a huge, fresh white snapper to share for just under three pounds. Bliss. We took a boat ride with a fisherman in his canoe, lounged on the beach again, and lounged some more, all this was fantastic except I got more sun burnt than I ever had before and I hardly exposed my skin to the sun. Ive worked out tis the Doxyclone malaria tables that can make your skin far more susceptable to the sun ...
Kovlam, India alex_charnleySometimes we are inspired or moved by a certain author, poet, philosopher, friend or by a musician's lyrics. This poem, by Pablo Neruda, was given to me by a friend when I was living in Costa Rica last year. I have always carried it with me and today, while reading it on the balcony of our ashram room, I once again felt quite moved by the words; so i share them with you: October Fullness Little by little, and also by great leaps life happened to me, and how insignificant this ...
Kollam, India ruthiucsd... Palace in the middle of the village. I'd made a few enquiries at various times for a cheaper room and this, although not the cheapest, looked perfect. With the World Cup just days away I needed a good room with TV and a fridge to chill a few cheap beers that I would purchase from a Governement run booze shop a couple of KM's away. Sure I might watch some of the important matches in company down at one of the restaurants/bars - but not every match - I have a budget to stick to ...
Trivandrum and Kovalam (South Kerala), India rgw...... very nice and helpful. We have enjoyed our stay here tremendously. I'm including some pictures of the boys at the hotel in my photo album for this entry. Since we are almost done with our stay here, Toni and I decided to have henna tattoos on our hands one more time before we leave. Reji's Beauty Parlor does a really nice job with hennas. She can do arabic designs which are very beautiful and she cares enough about the quality that when she saw that the henna ...
