There is a bridge built between fondamenta Zattere, just behind Salute church, which spans across the Giudecca canal to the Redentore church so that pilgrims can visit during this time, plus all the tourists too !! On the Saturday night St Marks basin fills with boats of all shapes and sizes and they all play music and party hard, and at 11.30 a huge firework display ...
... and there were beautiful buildings and gardens. Not many tourists make the trek up there so it is also very quiet.
On our way back to the apartment we stopped for gelato at Boutique del Gelato which is supposed to have the best gelato in Venice. I would have to agree with this assessment. I had a strawberries and cream flavor and Brandon raved about the green apple.

... and we managed to walk by it at least twice. Once there we had to collect the key from another hotel, back in the direction we had already criss-crossed. True to form our room was not ready! We dumped the bags and headed off in pursuit of nowhere in particular, but generally towards San Marco. Steph failed to resist the lure of the tourist shops and sampled copiously. It was now over 6 hours since we'd left the Days Inn and we were a trifle (!) hungry. We finally ...
... and art galleries at the moment as we have been in so many this trip. I know that will change when we get to Naples and we go to the large archaeological museum there.
There was lots more to see outside the old town and on another visit we will venture further afield. We headed back to the ship in the afternoon and hung out.
