... to have one last stroll through Venice. I also bought a few postcards and asked for directions to the nearest post office to buy stamps. We met up with the Davids back at the hotel and began our journey to the train station. Since the cost of a water taxi was going to cost us approximately 100€ for a relatively short ride, we decided to hoof it. It was fun walk, to say the least.

Our apartment is about 10 mins from the train station in a quiet little "street" looking out at a canal. There is a supermarket literally over the bridge and of course our first trip there meant that Michelle forgot to weigh the bananas, and as the line was about a thousand people long, we decided to leave ...
... street to bus stop #2 which is the stop for the Mestre Railway Station. (Bus #2 also goes to the Piazzelle Roma). We stowed our bags beneath the bus, validated our tickets in the yellow box (very important) and climbed aboard. The entire bus stop area is covered so we stayed out of the rain. The location sign on our bus wasn’t working and we wouldn’t have even known we were near the Mestre Station except ...
... and so on) annnnnd we got another free tour out of it! So as not to pass up on something free (an absolute Gap Year no-go) we all piled into a boat and drove to Murano island. My mind refused to comprehend the skill of the glassblower, as he made a horse in about 5 seconds. Of course, it being a free tour, we were then subjected to a lot of advertising and 'encouraged' to buy merchandise ...
... them. They were only coming to Venice for the day as the train only takes 2 hours, at first we thought that was a bit crazy but having been here for nearly a day I think that's what I would recommend to others.
We caught a taxi to the hotel and that was fine, in fact the cheapest taxi fare we have had yet. The hotel staff here are not nearly so helpful or friendly as at Florence and it really does put a damper on it when you are treated quite ...
