    Back to Fortaleza

We woke up at 0500 after what felt like a very deep sleep (for once) and quickly ate breakfast and drank the last of the coffee before making our way down to the rendezvous point at 0555. We loaded our bags onto the truck and sat back to admire the last of the sand dunes of Jeri as we bumped up and down over each uneven surface. We arrived at the small town of Jijoca where we waited at the bus stop for our bus to Fortaleza to be ready for departure. The bus trip ...

... supplied, we cooked up own eggs and muesli with fruit to go with it and have a proper start to the day. We decided to stay away from the heat and sun during the peak heat hours pre midday so we made our way to the Centro Mercado. We struck some bargains on the way as Leesh found some small market vendors selling exercise tights and bras for $4-10 and $2 sport bras, $10 denim shorts and I managed to snag a $4 pair of boardies. Good start. But ...

We got up at 0700 on the hope of beating the heat and squeezing in a workout before it was unbearable. We threw our gear on and made the quick jog to the beach. It was not cool at all. It was sweltering and only 0715. We managed to do a decent routine despite the heat but had to end it within half hour as it was getting ridiculous. We ducked into the water to cool off and the water was perfect. So refreshing and a great start to the day. We walked back to ...

... and as we made our way along our street, we could not see any signs for the hostel. The cab driver doubled back around giving enough time to quickly read the email for booking which said a blue and green building. We finally found it, got out and rang the bell in hope. The door opened and we had the right spot. We went in and checked in and got our complimentary check in caipirinhas. This hostel was a hot box with no ...

... front to the fish market. Jamily had told us about it as you chose your fish, shrimps in our case, and then go next door to the restaurant and they cook them for you. We did well that night as Helen and I polished off 1kg of shrimp! And it was really cheap - I think the equivalent of £5 for 1kg of freshly caught shrimp, delicious. We also went on a day trip to Cumbuco, a small seaside town about 30km North of Forteleza. It was very ...
