So... since I last wrote. The next morning I set off on my camel safari. It turned out it was just me and one other girl, Jess, who was a great person to go on a camel safari with, and our guide, Tiger. His name wasn't actually Tiger, it was Ishmael, but a lot of the tourist people pick a name that's easy for them to remember. I met a boy named Harry Potter, for example. We drove in a jeep out from Jaisalmer for a ways. Then we met our camels ...
Pushkar, India emzaHey everyone! I'm in Jaisalmer and I am absolutely in love with the city, though I've only been here a couple hours. The city is in and around a huge yellow fort rising from the desert. I'm staying inside the fort which is so cool as all the streets and buildings are the sandstone, my hotel is in side the wall. I found the greatest hotel, I've forgiven my book for recommending a non-existant museum in Jaipur just because it recommended this hotel. I've got a lovely room ...
Jaisalmer, India emza... place mats; and skirt material. I loved it. Maybe I'll get a loom someday. And, I threw pots and made and glazed clay sculptures but none were very good. I was a much better weaver than a potter. The principles of the Bishnoi ecology were developed centuries ago by a survivor of a great famine which raged in 1485. This man observed that the famine was the result of the deforestation in the region and formulated a code of 29 rules of ...
Jodphur, India gramcbHi I had a complaint that I haven't put enough photos into the travel pod so I will do my best to add more! Ok - well Rich arrived in Delhi and he also brought rain with him ( I haven't seen any rain for 2 months). Our adventure started when we were taken to a travel agency who re arranged our itinerary! Don't ask, I don't know how it happened but it did!). However, it worked in our favor as we are ...
Jodpur, India binixamistryWe did some cycling and watched loads of cricket with an old man and drank tea with him. the road made us rattle at the end like this: urghghghurghugga-ugga-ugga-urgh. Tim I have a humongous bruise from being head-butted by a cow in Bikaner. It was trotting along at some pace and I commented "my, you've got a wriggle on!" She was not amused and subsequently neither was I. Sri Kolayat is a pilgrimage centre, the paths are lined with sadhus. The focus; an artificial ...
Sri Kolayat, India hubbardtim... by tourism. I have signed up on a group tour, which I have never done before and I was a little apprehensive about it, being carted around from place to place with a bunch of strangers...but, happily, I really like everyone on this trip, it is actually a very pleasant surprise. The trip itself is pretty laid back, not running you all over the place, today we had the day to ourselves. There are ...
Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, India triptalkNamaste!! We caught an 8am bus from Udaipur to Jodhpur on Sunday morning. There happened to be two busses leaving and for some reason, we were the only tourists on the one. All the rest of the tourists were together on the other bus. Even with all of our stops to drop/pick up passengers, as well as stop for gasoline, we still arrived into Jodhpur at 2:30pm, only 1/2 hour late. We made reservations at a hostel recommended by Lonely Planet but somehow they didn't have our ...
Jodhpur, India vannhansen3 pretty uneventful days driving out of Pushkar. Went to Jodphur to look round the hilltop fort, which overlooks the blue city (all the houses are painted blue at the whim of the Maharajah). didn't make it into the town itself as got accosted by about a hundred kids on a school trip, all of whom wanted to ask "What is your good name"?, "Which land are you from"? and "What is your service"? (or job). From Jodphur carried on to Jaisalmer, which is about 170km from Pakistan so is ...
Bikaner, India swhaleHome of the Junagarh Fort. After a long bus ride to Bikaner, we opted to miss out on the additional 1 hour ride to see the rat temple. Instead, Grant and I took a rickshaw into town, to check it out. Bikaner, a city of 600,000, is not very touristy at all. The center is very crowded (the most crowded I've seen yet) with pedestrians spilling out into the street, and cyclists and rickshaws trying to squeeze their way ...
Bikaner, India gojoadventuresA 19 hour train journey from New Delhi lands us in Jaisalmer, the mecca for tourists and touts. We stay at Joshi's Guesthouse and meet Craig, Becky and Manu. Spend the next few days checking out the fort which is quite spectacular when lit up at night. Haggle for a couple of wall hangings which are pretty spesh. From here its onto Jodhpur, the blue city...
