Breath of Fresh Air

... It was good for the night life, but a bit too many sequins and short dresses on girls who weren't meant to wear short dresses. We did however stay in an awesome hostel that provided laundry and a nice kitchen. We decided to cook a meal together and we made a great pasta that made up for the lack of other activity in Galway.

The next day a few of us returned to Dublin to sketch that area before heading to Scotland ...

Ireland! (Part II)

... other side of town, so we had another lovely walk through the rain to get there. The Guinness tour was similar to the Jameson tour, in that it was a little pricey (11 euro for the tour, testing lab and "free" pint). However, it was still a really fun thing to do. They were celebrating their 250 years in the building (1759-2009) so everything was fancied up a bit. The factory itself was seven stories high. There were exhibits on how to ...

Galway Bay, Bunratty, Cliffs of Moher

... had to step back and take it all in as I could not simply begin to tell you about this place!!! We were able to stop in the Burren and take this landscape in as well. We saw the famine walls, fairy houses and other things I would have never thought about in learning the Irish history better. Today was a day of seeing the world from a different light.

... the carlsbad caverns, but i guess thats me just being spoiled. Then we went on to the Cliffs of Moher and what a beautiful site! I have to say that we could not have picked a more perfect day! It was a bit cloudy when we first got there but the sun came out quickly and It was absoloutly gorgeous. In Palos Verdes we have alot of cliffs, but they really have nothing on these bad boys. They were absoloutly HUGE! (215 meters high to be exact) It was ...

... br>
Next we drove through the Doo Lough Valley. There is a very beautiful lake in this area and another trageic story about the potato famine. In 1846, the 600 residents of Doo Lough Valley walked to the Delphi Lodge in hope for food, but 200 people died on the walk and there is a memorial on the mountain overlooking Black Lake.

We arrived in Galway and walked some of the sites, but are going to bed early for our long drive to Dublin.

Old Galway and a trip to Adare

... I had my first real fish-and-chips, which was light and delicious and not even remotely related to Mrs. Pauls:
http://www.mcdonaghs.net/

That afternoon we had to check out of the hotel and leave the rest of the family to move on to our next destination. Because were including a trip to London in the middle of our vacation we had less time to traverse Ireland and could not ...

... the water refuge in Galway so DON'T DRINK THE WATER! I'm hoping they fixed that all up at this point. - Certain streets are blocked off that only guardia, postmen, and government cars can get down. Their vehicles are equipped with special chips that intruct the metal posts to retreat into the ground so that they can get by. - If I ever return I'd like to bike the Connemara Loop, it's supposed to have amazing scenery. - The sheep outnumber the people in Ireland.

Lazy Day at the Weekend

... style dye job, blue. Definitely cool though.) Then we went to a 50s-retro diner called Eddie Rocket's and had milkshakes while listening to oldies American music. We had to shake ourselves when the waiters talked in Irish accents and the bill was in euros. No, we hadn't been magically transported back to North America! In the evening I hung out with Carla and we listened to yet more ...
