The town of Galway was much more than I expected. Could be that I arrived on a Saturday - but there was a lot going on. I headed to the Pedestrian Zone which was a couple minutes walking distance from my hotel - which was full of pubs and shops and alive with musicians playing in the street. Very cool. There was a farmer's and artisan market with …
Checked out of the Station House Hotel and headed south to the town of Donegal. Drove on the N13 to Ballybofey then the N15 to Donegal. Stopped for a few hours in the town. Visited Donegal Castle which we both thoroughly enjoyed. Took stacks of photos. Very picturesque town. It felt really exciting to think that I was in the town where my ancestors …
I arrived in Galway on St. Arthur's day which I was told was made up, but still highly celebrated as it was made up by Guinness. The beer magnate brought in schwag, bands and of course gallons of their famous brew. To say the late night activity of a city known for the same was active, is a gross under exaggeration. Breakfast was in a rather tired function room due to the usual room being refurbished, it wasn't bad but I guess the highlight had to be non-stop pre-royal wedding stuff on TV in the background – sad, but the coverage would be compelling I think if I wasn't travelling around (not that I’m a royal watcher……).
One of the best deals we got on this trip were the 1 Euro bus tickets from Galway direct to Dublin airport.
The bus left from the coach terminal (around the corner from the hotel) and again, it was very easy to find since all the companies/departure times are so clearly marked. The bus left on time and there were absolutely no problems on …

Great hotel in the heart of the city. My room was quite small in comparison to the previous hotel. But the bed was really comfortable and the room itself was really clean! The room itself wasn't very sound-proof. There was no *buffer* between the inside of the room and the hallway - just the door - so I could hear everything going on outside the door. Not a huge deal-breaker. The location made up for it!!! Easy walk to the pedestrain zone shopping/pub area and a 30 second walk to the bus station! Train station was about 3 minute walk on the same street. Shops close for drinks/snacks. GREAT location of this hotel!!!!
