So we left St Tropez to head towards Avignon. I wanted to drive along the coast and we found a little road to take us there.. Little alright! It was about 11 or 17km of narrow winding steep roads. The worst part was the cars we occasionally ran into coming the other way and the big drop on the other side!
But it was all worth it. We found all these beautiful little beaches. We stopped at one and ...
We also took the short drive to Port Grimaud, to visit this small but new harbour town built in what was once marshland, but is now row after row of condos and homes built in a web of jetties to allow the homes to anchor their boats at their doorsteps. Of course, we would have rather spend our time on the beach, but with bad weather, Grimaud was a nice alternative.
Grimaud, Provence, France mylifesjourney... 1:30, so we looked in from outside the fence. I have a few pictures here of the ampitheatre. It was much smaller than the one in Orange, and in much worse state of repair. They had built modern seating and staging over top of the ruins, so that there wasn't much sense of what the original would have been like to attend events in.
Then, when leaving town, we saw some ruins over on the side of the road and stopped. It turned out to be a series of bases for ...
... 4 blocks down the road. We got a Royal with Cheese. Those of you who watched Pulp Fiction know the answer to why they don't have a quarter pounder with cheese over here. Metrics system. I guess a "Tenth kilo with cheese" just doesn't roll trippingly off the tongue. Funnies thing I saw was something on the kids menu - Croque McDo. I almost laughed out loud at that one.
Well, that's it for today. We haven't planned what we're doing for tomorrow yet.
We had a plesant surprise yesterday - we went to Marseille and it was a great stop. From the magnificent Notre Dame Basilica with its sweeping views to the Mediterrean beach of Cassis. We even squeezed in a salad and crepe lunch...plus pizza for dinner.
... Take in the beautiful descents in 1600 of Cachette and Rouelles, a bumpy scenic black recently reclassified from its blatantly incorrect redness! Arc 1800 is the best area for beginners as there is a number of linked blues and plenty of beginners slopes at a high enough altitude to ensure good snow. The skiing around ...
Les Arcs, Rhône-Alpes, France pv_blogWe had a lovely few days visiting our friend Nicci at her place in Aix-en-Provence, in the south of France. She was staying here for a few months to improve her French and soak up the lifestyle, which included living in villa with 8 university students on the outskirts of town ...
Aix-en-Provence, France aussiecaitlin... opted to go back to the bus on our own. I am still laughing over this situation. I went into a store to buy Heather the cutest t-shirt that I saw outside and two gentlemen working there helped me with the size and while I paid one of the employees asked me where I was from and when I told him, he said 'Ah, Américaine' and then he asked me if I liked it here and I told him definitely yes, I was planning to come back. So then he introduced himself and asked my name ...
