        Decided to take a morning excursion to Cassis even though we planned to disembark a day early in Marseille - turned out to be a great decision as we probably would not have bothered to get ourselves there on our own, & it is a beautiful town! Especially loved the little boat trip to three of the closest calanques. Soaked up the sunshine at a waterside café then wandered through the narrow back streets & through the bustling local market.

        ... that the town has been promoting a cruise friendly campaign. Part of this includes making an effort to speak english, shops and restaurants being opened (even on Sundays), and discounts for those who stop at the tourist info station.

        ... we went to the Eiffel Tower. People were on the ground selling these really great toys. They were part catapult and part helicopter and part flashlight. They fired them into the air and they flew up with bright lights flashing. There were lots of them, all flying in the sky like multi coloured fire flies.

        ... found it, took some snaps then joined the ridiculous line to climb it. After about an hour in the line we were on our way up the tower. We thought we had a good view from the first floor then went right up to the summit and it was amazing! Apparently it is 300m high so we could see everything! By the time we got down to the bottom we had been there about 3 hours! There wasn't a lot of time left in the day by then so went for a drink and some dinner then back the the ...
