The first few weeks in Amiens had some wet days when it was not really possible to do much outside the house. So I bought a jigsaw of a very famous Vermeer painting, The Artist's Studio. Whilst doing it I reflected often on the genius of Vermeer and the example of his work in front of me. There is still a long way to go in my real education: I need and want to learn more. We spent the morning cleaning up the house, doing our washing and cleaning the car. After lunch we decided to do one more visit so found the gardens at Digeon in our little red book. A phone call confirmed the final directions and also that they were open to visitors. We set off using GPS again and made it without a problem. The gardens are attached to a chateau that is owned by an elderly couple who have lived there for a long time, raising six kids in the process. ...

We wanted to try these tree adventures during our trip but we didn't have enough time - finally we have today! By searching on internet we discovered this place less than an hour away from Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport and also our hotel.

So after checking out in the morning we drove there and spent the whole afternoon at this adventure park in the forest before heading to the airport ...

... Claridge of the Auckland Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion died on 7 October 1916. Cause of death is simply stated as "died of wounds". He was only 22. We found his headstone which he shares with an English officer. There are also a lot of other New Zealanders in this cemetery.

Afterwards we drove to Albert, which is the main town in the area, and visited the Musee Somme 1916. It was quite well presented, in an old WWII air raid ...
