... well deserved wash. It took some scrubbing to get 5 weeks worth of dirt off him but he sparkled once we were done :)
Another longish drive got us to Arles where the plan was to stay for 2 nights as it was home to van Gogh and lots of Roman ruins. We got a good park on the Rhone River just outside the city walls but the city itself made us feel a little uneasy and something was not quite right. The place was ...
Plan was to stay in Avignon but when we arrived we decided it was too big for us and after driving around the outide of the ramparts of the old city walls - very cool and the main thing we wanted to see - we made our way onwards to Fontaine de Vaucluse which is 20kms past Avignon. We arrived just before dark and found an Aire de Service at the edge of town where settled in for 2 days. The town ...
Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France darrenhough74Wait a minute, we’re not traveling to Italy until tomorrow…but we spent the day in Arles exploring Roman architecture.
The biggest site in town is the amphitheatre, or coliseum. Glimpses through different side streets pull you even closer like the hub it has always been. Huge in scale, some seating is till original and large towers give sweeping views of the ...
... I’ve seen in Arles, Vincent had it just right!
For they could not love you, but still your love was true
And when no hope was left inside on that starry, starry, night

Before departing for Paris, I had already pre-purchased a ticket online at home with the flexibility of changing the departure time (of course for a fee of 10€). But I still had to print it out, and confronted by the many red, yellow, and green ticket dispensing machines at the train station, I now had to select the right one. OK, let's try the yellow ...
Orange, Provence, France globetrekker... external approach and when one first sees it internally. It is so high, perhaps 5 or 6 stories. There are colonnades and 3 central entrance doorways from the rooms behind the stage, as well as the wings of course. I remember a figure of 6000 capacity mentioned somewhere, but thinking about it afterwards, that must have been in the C2 AD. Not so many modern sized bums would squeeze onto those seats.
Equally impressive with ...
... services for a cheap trip into France (for a fee of course !!! I can't help it, it's the Jew in me !!!). And as there was some different Roman ruins to see, a trip was planned, and then put into action. The flight was your usual Ryanair, takeoff, fly, bounce down the runway. Once through customs, Hertz this time did not upgrade me. I think it was the fact that I was with two dodgy Argies on illegally gained EU ...
