... Dam. By the time we hit the Lower
Sabie road we were in high spirits and would have been quite happy to
leave it there......
Then, as tends to happen on the Sabie road or 'Eloff street' as my volks called it all through my childhood, we rounded a bend to be greeted by +- 15 cars all jostling for position.
This usually means one thing, a cat! After a few minutes straining to
see what all the commotion was about we were told by another vehicle
that a ...
... from one small campsite to another, in the most beautiful mountain area - lovely hills wherever you looked and hardly anybody there!! It was great and really gave us the feeling we are finally on holiday!
After 3 days of lots of walking and a staple spaghetti diet we were ready to leave Swaziland back over the border, this time with public transport (the first time was by organised transfer)... it took 6 minibusses and about 6 hours in total ...
... and video of it as it just lay on the branch. We waved another couple behind us to slow down and pointed out the leopard to them. We drove on after a few minutes onto Lower Sabie. This camp last year we were really impressed with, and it still looks excellent. We were surprised to see that the viewing area overlooking the river was taped off, no notice explaining why it was off limits. We walked around the very good shop there ...
Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga, South Africa neilandchris... of us an a British couple went to a local Irish pub to watch some English premier league soccer - Arsenal vs. Man U. Apparently EPL is very big here. Woke up early and got picked up for my 4 day Kruger NP safari. A good group of people that was on our tour -consisting of Pasta (our tour guide), 3 girls from Argentina, 1 American, 2 British & 2 Swedish girls and of course yours truly. Went to a few SA sights inc. Gods Window, Blade River Canon and these pot ...
Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, South Africa easyrider1234... Rover gets a service done (we have driven approx 8,000 km) and possibly the CV joint replaced in the rear. There has been a loud clicking noise coming from the rear, right wheel which has been getting worse. I am convinced that is why we have not seen a leopard - it hears us coming! Tomorrow, our plan is to head into Swaziland, the smallest of the african countries, down to the coast and back up through Lesotho to Johannesburg for our flight out on Nov 30.
Barberton, Mpumalanga, South Africa samndoug... to bed. The people are interesting, the lodge is rustic and one of a kind, the food was unreal and we are in the middle of nowhere! Everything is just as I had imagined it and I am so far removed from the real world that I momentarily completely forget about my fans (you guys) back home. I fall asleep in the bug net to the sounds of the wild!
Nelspruit, South Africa madman96... ver kijken.
Nelspruit, South Africa vangorp... the border. So basically at that point we did not know for sure if we had a bus ticket for the next day as Francois said he had booked us one, but then again he had said a lot of other things that were not true, we did not know if the embassy was going to be open on the next day and if we had time to get a visa on the border if we took the bus. And we did not have a hotel in Maputo for New Years Eve. Then we got a text from Francois finally ...
Nelspruit, South Africa domjonna... in order to engage lower gears, one has to let up on the clutch nearly the entire way, thereby creating a very small margin of error between remaining in neutral and stalling. As a result, I often give Chico a lot of gas, with subsequent engine revving, before finally shifting (or more often lurching) into first. Our ride was further complicated by the inaccurate directions that we had received for the Sheraton Pretoria. Given our difficulty in finding the Sheraton Zagreb ...
Kruger Park, South Africa andymo99... we saw a herd of buffalo and lots of rhinos. Giraffes, impala and other hoofed animals abounded and at night the shrill cry of the hyenas freaked the boys out. The lodging was nice but the lack of animals encouraged us to move on at the earliest opportunity. We went to Krueger National Park in search of animals and a last minute reservation. Within 1 hour of driving on the public roads in Krueger, we saw more animals than we had in 2 days at Zuma Zuma. (In the end, we really ...
