This village clings to the side of a cliff. We first saw it in an articule in the TNT magazine in London.

It is another stop on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compestela. It has a famed image of a Black Madonna which is reputed to be responsible for many miracles.

We're back! We haven't had consistent internet access for a while, but are now able to catch up a bit. We are actually in Annecy, France right now in the Alps, but will write about that and other adventures soon.

Rocamadour
The ancient city ( the church is 530 years old) of Rocamadour is on top of, at the foot of and stuck to a cliff in the middle of France., a surprisingly canyony area. We drove to the bottom of the city and took a stairway ...

After a 3.5 hour drive we checked into the hotel at orleans... got some food and got relaxed ready for a kip.... an hour later in our box of a hotel room we decide to drive 4 hours more to mum and dads and arrive a day early to surprise them.   What a SURPRISE... we had a really good drive got to the house at 9pm only to find.... they weren't in....!!!!we rang the phone and mobile both we in the house so we had no idea where they were...opps we ...

... The hamlet is in the Parc Quercy (a National Regional Park) so much of the wildlife etc is fairly abundant. Some hunting is allowed but only at specified times and dates. You do have to watch out for wild boar! Never spotted one thank goodness. It is also the centre of the black truffle region. We left Chateaue le Verdoyer on Monday 16th in pouring rain and headed south for Cahors, hoping for better weather. Upon leaving my lovely villa, I returned to a charming, affordable hotel near the train station in Cahors, and explored that medieval town of 21,000 a bit better. The cathedrals, the 700 year old fortified Pont Valentre, and more winding streets, farmers markets and promenades along the Lot in the warm summer sun made for a delightful August.
