One Gaudi City

(C) Barcelona - so much to say - so much still to write. More on the way... (S): Ahhhh...Barcelona. Probably my favorite of our Spanish tour. But, it was a bit difficult getting there. Namely because when we left Andorra, we were without a map of Spain and were sans guidebook. These facts alone were enough to make this super anal, type-A personality sister go absolutely insane. Couple that with my aversion to setting up the tent in the pitch dark and you have a very happy voyage on your hands...

The City That Has It All

My time in Barcelona can best be described by one word, incomplete. Never have I been to a place with such an diverse abundance of things to do. No matter what you like to do, you can do it here.

Luckily I had met some musicians on couchsurfing before coming into town, because of this I was able to tap into another area of the city I never would have. On the first night in town ...

Souvenirs & good-bye's/ Do we have to leave?

... booked! So we figured we'd find a bench to sit on. Apparently, Gatwick has no night flights and the place was strewn with travelers. We entertained ourselves for a few hours but by 3 am we needed a bench. Luckily, someone left and we were able to sleep for a couple of hours. Finally, it was time for our 9 am flight. Although the airport stay was long and completely uncomfortable, it was worth it to have a full day in Barcelona.

... from how I understood it at least).  Louise convinced the guys from the tapas bar to wear feather boas in honor of the hen party and then lots of pictures and a little drinking followed.  Really a fun group, we felt lucky to be included in their party.

So now it is 1400, we haven't left the room yet.  I made a remark to Justine that we should probably get up to try and adapt to Spain time before class on Monday ...

Barcelona (Spain)

Barcelona (Spain) - 16th April 2008. Cool and grey skies when we arrived at the port in Barcelona. We caught the shuttle bus to the international trade center at the port side entry of the La Rambla. We decided to take a city tour bus as Dennis had never been to Barcelona and the last time I was here was 10 years ago. We hopped onto the bus and went upstairs to the open top for a better view of the city. However ...

modernism overload

i'm quite familiar and fond of Dali's art and was hoping to get out to the city where he lived and where there is a large collection of his work, but unfortunately i was unable to get out there.... but Gaudi's work throughout Barcelona kept me satisfied and busy enough! la Sagrada Familia is absolutely incredible... unfortunately he died before it was completed and they are still working on finishing it on the inside... so you pay 8€ and the inside is all ...

Viva Barcelona!

... any problems...well I haven´t had anything stolen. Knock on wood. Knowing Las Ramblas can be seedy still doesn´t deter people at night. I may make it sound worse than it is because you still find plenty of people up and down the street either making their way to or from any number of bars or clubs located along the street or harassing or getting harassed by any of the number of aforementioned distractions. Besides, isn´t the point of visiting new ...

A Gaudi Day

... actually tells the story of the allegory of Sant Jordi, the patron saint of Catalonia. As St. George was the dragon slayer, the roof of the building is the dragons back. Nothing can prepare you for the Sagrada Familia, the project that consumed the later part of Gaudi´s life. When completed, many predict that the church will be the world´s eighth wonder. However, the question is, "when will it be completed?" Construction began in 1882 and ...

Welcome to Mullet Land

... not too sure if I have done that) and today we left on the 7:20 bus for Barcelona. Jon struggled as we roamed the halls of the metro system. I truly feel sorry for him have to crutch himself around. He is able to start walking next week. We checked into our hostel around 2 and peter promptly went to sleep. Jon and I headed to the beach, which is literally out our front door. I am just about to go get postcards, but I thought that ...
