Van Gogh and Don't Stop

... anywhere else. At our next stop, Isle Saint Pierre ( http://www.islesaintpierre.fr/domaine/a ccueil.php?langue=en ), we tasted Petit Verdot, Arinarnoa (a rare type we've never seen before and I really liked for its spicy/earthy nature), Cabernet Franc, Muscat varietals and a number of blends. We were again all by ourselves at the vineyard tasting area and frenglished our way through the multiple tastings. So much so that through miscommunication we ended up purchasing two ...

Day 18 - Stick insects

Distance covered: 68 miles

As we were leisurely packing up our tents I heard a loud shreak which can only be described as a feminine homosexual man being confronted by blood thirsty wolverines. But when I turned to see Alex close to tears due to a stick insect I couldnt help but laugh. Apparently he thought a stick was on his arm and when he went to knock it off it started walking. Although I ...

Nice to Avignon to Provence

It was a long day on the bus, but we finally made it to Provence. On the way we stopped in Avignon to see the Pope's Palace and then made our way to the Roman Aqueduct. After dinner in Provence, we stumbled upon a crazy street party with a DJ. It was fun experience to dance with the locals and get a feel for the flavor of the town. We are off to Barcelona tomorrow!

River Lot and off to the Dry dock in Toulouse

... next 8 days we headed for Toulouse and stopped off at some lovely places on the way - Agen, Moissac, Castelsarassin. As we were going to be in Toulouse and not get out of dry dock until November we needed to find a winter mooring for the barge - normally you do this way ahead of time - we were very lucky to be able to get a lovely mooring on a pontoon at Port St Sauveur in the middle of Toulouse.

Where The Streets Have No Name

... industrial wasteland, we started to have concerns. Either Tom was taking us out to a deserted part of town to rob us of all our belongings, or he was lost. The best part was we realised he was lost before he did, then all of a sudden he went silent and refused to talk to us any further. We had to find our own way back to a major road in Avignon before he came back to life again. Lesson 1 - computers don't know everything. Not 5 minutes later, Tom very confidently informed us to turn left ...

The Dordogne

... sounded more appealing (not to mention less costly) and both laid claim to the title of Most Beautiful Village in France. We had thought the D703 a fairly important road, narrow and scary, but it was as nothing compared to the real country roads of France. Margaret drove magnificently, though her frequent scatological exclamations belied her calm exterior. Autoire, the Most Beautiful Village in France, was really rather ordinary . Condoms and a b@stard hotel

... helps keep the church from ruins. Near the end of the 16th century the cl**gy moved to Cassaigne, taking the int**nal timb**s and fittings from the church and castle with them. The whole village was falling apart until rescued by French authorities. In contrast to the small church in Larressingle the huge 14th century collegiate church seems out of place in La Romieu, to the west of Condom. It looms out of the village looking like a grain silo. The village was ...
