What a day! After a 4.30 start our bus eventually turned up to take us up into the mountains.
At first the drive was fairly calm just occasionally dodging pilgrims as trekked towards the source of the four religious rivers. We stopped devpragay for the confluence. The two rivers, Alaknanda (holy one)and the Bhagirathi and together this becomes the Ganga.

... concession, but the vast majority of Asan is closed to people. There are ample places to bird watch from the shoreline. In fact, this was one of the locations throughout the state that hosted the Utterakhand Spring Bird Festival this past February.
This trip was another great opportunity to learn about how another Protected Area is being managed and to add to our growing list of birds observed during our time in the country.

Our next stop was Gunjan's village, as we winded down the narrow landscaped hills still with the excitement and joy of the visit to Shanu's village we pulled up out side the village and was warmly greeted by singing and drums by the locals. As we hopped out of the car people came up and gave us flower lays and threw flowers upon us welcoming us into their beautiful village. The head of the village came and officially welcomed ...

We then made the pilgrimage in a big line just like the congo line and weaved our way through the narrow path past their houses all the way to an area which had been specially decorated and set up for our arrival and here gorgeous Shanu awaited us along with his family. The Terraces, I term it as the crown of Kanatal. Best location, superb food, very courteous staff and nicely done up rooms. My kid was running fever for few hours, after tiring journey due to our
self-drive to Kanatal from Ahmedabad. The staff was concerned and
provided all possible help.
