After we left the monastery we retraced our steps and stopped at Asenovgrad Fortress, which perches dramatically in the mountains about 2km from the town. ... atmospheric. I loved the frescoes on the ceiling and pillars of the long archway just in front of the main entrance. It was lovely to wander round the grounds in the sun, too. There was a sheep in a pen for some reason and cockerels and hens wandered round the edge of the main courtyard. I seemed to be one of very few international tourists there; mostly it seemed to be Bulgarians popping into the church to pray ...

... ski school we got opportunity to eat in a few different places during lunch, around the Studenets area. And in the evenings we are again, unreal how much of an appetite skiing gives you. We did Gloria Mar on Sunday night, lovely grub, cocktails and free transport to and from hotel. We also found a lovely place called restaurant fis which had lovely food and wasn't too busy. Most mights we were sleeping by 11.30, fed watered and sore from the days skiing. I love the ski lifestyle ...

... decoration of flowers and peacocks, and some have the owners initials and date when they were built. The rain had stopped as we walked to the new town, is quiet today, it must be the weather, but on a nice day it looks to have a thriving centre and a popular cafe culture.
