After we left the monastery we retraced our steps and stopped at Asenovgrad Fortress, which perches dramatically in the mountains about 2km from the town. ... atmospheric. I loved the frescoes on the ceiling and pillars of the long archway just in front of the main entrance. It was lovely to wander round the grounds in the sun, too. There was a sheep in a pen for some reason and cockerels and hens wandered round the edge of the main courtyard. I seemed to be one of very few international tourists there; mostly it seemed to be Bulgarians popping into the church to pray ...

... for the day, Danny, who was quite good but unfortunately the others in our group were a lot slower than ourselves. Danny suggested moving us to a more advanced ski group and thought we had been skiing at least 4 or 5 years. He was very surprised to hear it was only our 2nd ski trip. How good are we lol the next day we were with a different group, perhaps a way more advanced group than we were ready for as some of these guys could do back flips while skiing lol anyway ...
