... walk to dinner were closed. But, two doors down from our Hotel is a Chocolatier/ Patisserie little shop that had beautifully crunchy yet soft and rich macaroons, deep dark 70% chocolate bars (and will be a daily stop for morning café au lait and baked goods).

Through it all, from Amsterdam to our after dinner walk back to the hotel, the rain fell in varying amounts. It did not dampen our spirits or our amazement at being in the heart of Paris.

Montmartre tour



Lauren and Nathan highly recommended checking out the Montmartre district, France's artistic and cultural area at the top of a hill. As usual, I did so on a Sandemans walking tour. The tour started at night in front of Moulin Rouge, where above the famous windmill was scaffolding work typical in the European winter, just to ruin photos. ... The parks round Paris were beautiful and everyone looked expensive and fashionable. We walked for miles and after seeing the Arc de Triumph we went for a beer at a cafe and sat on the street and people watched for ages. We went back to the campsite and got changed for dinner to a restaurant we'd spotted on the walk. ... the Louvre, the Champs Elysees, Arc de Triumphe and all the major sights. We also found a great cheese shop and bought a few for lunch. We had plenty of yummy crepes and paninis too (our time in Paris pretty much revolved around our meals or the next time we got to eat). We went out to a couple bars, that were very packed and so smoky you could barely breathe and eventually ended up at our favorite piano bar. The next day, we leave for Barcelona!
