We arrived around 1pm at our deserted campsite (a cooler 2000ft above sea level than the 48 degree valley floor) and after putting up the tent and creating our own shade we used the car as a shade until the sun dipped behind the hills and we could sit outside without getting sunstroke. We had been persuaded by our friend Nick and our own tasteful ambitions to take the John Muir Trail alternate instead of the Pacific Crest Trail for a fourteen mile divergence of the two. Off to do a short hike this morning, one of the easiest in the valley and suitable for Josh to walk as well.
