Summer Retreat!
... the pier we are suddendly invited to join a cruise out to the lighthouse ... great as we weren't sure what else we would do in this now sleepy village.
Equally exciting trying to find dinner, stumbled on a tiny local "pub" and had a terrific meal, but no conversation as the locals north don't seem to speak English, our limited German at least got us a meal and drinks :)

... We finished the day with flammkuchen, krabben (special small shrimp from the area), and local beer in Flensburg’s old town centre, and then coffee on the waterfront. It was great to catch up with Vanessa, the last time had been in Switzerland, and she hadn’t met Daniel before.

Bumming around.....Literally
After spending the night at the Hotel Weis Stue in Ribe, we got up and had breakfast across the road at a bakery and then took a walk around town. It really is the crookedest little place you would find.
All of these old buildings from the 15 and 1600s that are so twisted out of shape because of the settling of the composite layers, yet they are still standing. The use of big timber beams obviously give the houses lots of flexibility without failing.

... 8 which will feed us onto E45 – the European superhighway, to take us into Germany. In no time at all we are travelling at high speed (130 KPH on the Danish side, unlimited on the German side) to our hotel Landgasthof Hoffnung.
Once we are settled in, we take a short drive down to Flensburg, situated on the German side of the Flensburger Forde. We settle on a Swiss style restaurant for dinner and enjoy a plate of the classic Swiss dish geschnetzeltes.
