    Did you get that? I have climbed The Leaning Tower of Pisa!!! Who thought I couldn't do it? Doubting Thomas' ( Well, me, actually.) IT WAS FANTASTIC! I was really concerned that the nearly 300 steps might be a bit much for me. It was surprisingly easy.     Our first full day in Florence started out rainy and then got rainier... but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm for exploring this beautiful city.     ... 3,000 euros/tonne – cut from the cave, not including any transport costs!). The cutting process and how they take out the block is also very interesting (no silica exposure here as there are no imperfections and they use plenty of water).     ... towards Il Duomo and Piazza della Signoria, which are the main hubs of tourist action in town. I hit the ground "running" because I have a destination... the secret passages tour in the Palazzo Vecchio; Tickets must be picked up by 9:45. Being solo, it's easy for me to navigate and move quickly not needing a map in this town to reach this place, the Piazza della Signoria.
