A Day In the Life of an Immigrant/Foreigner

... their residency but they said it's worth ev**y hassle.

I cannot imagine being in the shoes of so many of the people I was surrounded by. I left to United States to furth** my education but for some people leaving their country isn't a choice and if it is it's one that usually means leaving a lot behind. My frustrations and worries are minuscule in comparison to oth**s. It's exp**iences like this that make one truly appreciate what they have...

Sevilla!

... incredible to imagine that the remains of the person who discovered America were right in front of me! Despite the heat, we walked up the tall tower and saw the whole city of Sevilla. It was beautiful! It was the perfect thing to end the trip. The three hour bus ride home I spent trying to absorb everything I saw and learned about. Now I want to take everyone to see all of the awesome places I've been in Spain!

... no idea what they were singing - but it was beautiful. The service was presided over by a couple of old Spanish priests who were probably no more than 6 feet tall standing on top of each other, and it was all in Spanish. It was unusual for me, as having grown up Catholic, all of the prayers and recitations that I new by heart in English were in Spanish. And of course, there was no "Order of Worship" for me to follow. I figured it out - enough ...

... expensive. After dodging the 14 euro laundry in Lisbon I had to get my clothes washed in Seville for 10 Euros. Seville is another one of a string of nice cities I have been in lately. There is no metro but the center is compact enough to walk around in comfort. The Cathedral is beautiful on the outside. I have no idea what the inside looks like as I was not prepared to pay 7 euros to walk around a church. On the other hand I ...

Life with Annyong and Abuela

... things to herself, but she's very nice. She reminds me of the grandmother in the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." She's extremely fond of Franco and wishes he had never died, which I find a little strange. I feel bad for Carmen because Abuela doesn't like anything besides soup and bread to eat while Kristina will eat most anything except some kinds of meat and some vegetables and I will basically only eat veggies and ...

Siviglia

Pluriball e ...

Sevilla, Spain

... they have open. Sevilla is a wonderful city to get lost in. There´s one straight street in town. The rest are pedestrian rabbit warrens or narrow one lane car streets mostly. There´s a ton of contstruction and preservation going on, as with most old cities. They´re laying tracks for a new tram system and metro and the central area is kind of a mess, but it will be great in another couple of years. The jewels of the city ...

Settling In

... one semester already and they barely spoke any Spanish and apparently have no Spanish friends. Also, when Meredith told them I had studied abroad in China, Natalie went on to make wild political theories based on her "Global Studies" major at her university in Wisconsin which were, in my opinion, not at all accurate. She started saying the Chinese will have a democratic government within 10 years, and I literally spit my wine back into my glass to keep myself from laughing or choking ...

Day Number 1 in Sevilla!

... Friday which is excellent! I found out that I am staying with a girl I know from Penn State, Rebecca Wilmer, and we are living in the center of the city. It is an excellent spot and my guide said we are very lucky. We are living with a madre and a tía. I'm not sure what that means but I guess I will find out tomorrow. Most people are living in the outskirts of the city, so it doesn't feel as if anyone ...

Spaniards are not nice

... they take them places and show them things, they get to know them and their culture, and they become an integral part of the family. We are a business in Spain. Families here simply have to provide 3 meals a day and a bed to foreign kids and they just pump 'em through semester after semester so they can make a quick buck. We spend so much time with Cloti, Carlos, Alfonso and other family members, and ...
