... us out back to their headquarters in the centre of town. So after talking over our options we decided to go spend a few days on the sure of Lake Malawi. I know I know it sounds awful to leave this place and go to a luxury hotel but trust me after the night we just had... and to top it all, my right eye now is starting to give me grief. So after lunch we all piled up in a van for the 4 hours ...

Holiday!!

... my seat for half of the journey and a lady in front of us even had chickens in a basket! It was very cool because all along the way everyone tried to sell you things through the window, like they would attatch their wares, usually single trainers or chicken feet, yummy, to sticks and hoik them up for you to look at, how funny is that! Everyone on the bus bought SO many things, we think its just a new way of doing the weekly shop! Then for the second half of ...

In loving memory of Bernald

Hi everyone. Sorry it's been so long since I've written...The past 2 attempts, the internet was down. Bernald, the child that I mentioned last time who is about 10 months old, died on Friday. We are all really sad about it. He was such a happy little guy, but he got diarrhea and lost so much weight and then was in the hospital on oxygen and a feeding tube for 1 week ...

The story so far

... the biggest vehicle gets the road and everyone else gives way. They don't have things like road markings in Uganda; they barely have roads to be honest. So we arrived @ the backpackers and headed for the leaba straight away. After a few hours rest we decided to venture into Kampala and explore a little. It took us about a ½ mile to discover that maybe this wasn't such a good idea; Kampala is filthy dirty with smog and people everywhere. So our first impressions of Africa weren't great ...

Polyfilla and Pedantic-antics

... three different minibuses then being dumped in a distant village and trying to hitch-hike taking "whatever you can get!" We'd already experienced enough Malawian minibuses, personal seats and space don't exist, long legs, or being anything over 5ft is a curse and dead chickens, live goats and bags of smelly fish enjoy minibus rides too. Feeling hopeful we wrote a note on the hostel noticeboard for a lift to Cape Maclear or ...

Our 20 seconds of fame

... towns on the lakeshore, and it takes somewhere around 5 days of constant travel to make it to Maputo. We decided to pass on Mozambique for this trip. But we did see it. One of the two lifeboats had apparently broken down (one of the reasons for our delay). So they connected the two boats with a piece of rope, filled them both to the brim with passengers, and towed the broken one into shore. It did not look very safe. According to the ...

Monkey Bay

I went and bought some banans off a street vendor, and just after I walked
away a monkey stole a whole bunch of bananas and ran off with it, all
the vendors shouting and chasing after it in vain ...

Relaxing at Cape McLear

... sweating a lot, taking
loads of showers and watching all the other tourists just dive into the
Lake, I could not resist and took a dip myself. It was worth every risk,
the water was so wonderful to swim in. As you walk in, swarms of small
yellow fish come to sniff at your legs, a funny feeling!

Here I also met two nice Dutch ...
