... As I am driving towards Bastogne, I noticed that rain seemed to be hitting my windshield rather "softly". I thought it might be snow, but nothing was on the ground. Then it happened. Which is probably what the locals and other visitors thought as about a hundred Aggies descended on the small town of Bastogne, Belgium. Bastogne is a town that really promotes it's historical heritage. I won't bore the blog with two many details, but the summary is that the town was under siege by the Germans and the 101 First Airborne (and other units) held the town. ... have it downstairs, that doesn't seem to be the case. Perched at the top of the stairs is the "best" reception, with difficulties downloading photos or anything other than basic email.
There is a real log fire in the lounge, and the landlord promises to clean it out daily and restart it for us late afternoon. Definitely a plus. Know how much work goes into maintaining one of those.
We spent the morning exploring Oostende by bicycle. The town
is extremely neat and clean and really quite a nice place to be. We essentially
made a circuit that included the beach front and parts of the city. The beach
is long, wide and sandy and actually reminded me a lot of our beach back home
in Mtunzini. There were quite a few guys fishing off the piers and we actually

... and it took us the two hours as expected which also included the taxi ride.
Once we got back we had some dinner. We went to one of the best places to get chips called Fritzland. They fry them twice. Very yum. We ended up deciding on some chips that are directly on a a baguette with stake, vegetables and tartare sauce. it was delicious.
Did i say best chips ever. They were.
