This morning we took a stroll down the crafts street, where we were able to go into four shops and watch the artisans in action: a pottery shop, silversmith, wood carver, and pastry maker. (We also watched a coppersmith later on our own). It was interesting to watch them in action....particularly the silversmith. He used a lantern torch to fuse the silver. After our long wait in Varna, we didn't get back to Veliko Tarnovo until 9 pm last night, so before we went to bed and conked out we didn't do anything apart from have a hot drink with F and R.

Apparently the sunny weather will continue all next ...

My head was buzzing by the end of the day while I was trying to wrap it around everything I had seen. But that just goes to show how much there is to see in this small country the size of Tennessee, the numerous battles and wars to control this piece of the Balkan peninsula a testament to its natural beauty, wonderful climate and fertile lands.

The beautful Bulgaria

A travel blog entry by mike_wiechecki on Apr 23, 2012

After Serbia we took the overnight train to Bulgaria. We arrived early in the morning in Sofia and walked about 20 mins through the city to our Hostel.

The Hostel was really nice- a 19th century building that had been used for many things including the communist meeting point. It was finally converted to a hostel in 2007 but still retains the traditional Bulgarian look. We did a walking tour around Sofia with a free walking tour group- they are students or ...
