The good news is that the clutch seems to be fit and well. The van is front-wheel drive and rather back heavy anyway so I think the combination of that and the madly steep hill meant that the tyres just couldn't get any grip. By the way, the storm wasn’t too bad and all the tents were intact the next morning. Now I know I promised no more art stuff and I’m sorry to go back on my word but I’ve just got to mention what has possibly been the highlight of ...

Today was our Tour Leaders birthday - 28 - and she celebrated by taking Sue and I, and one of the other girls in our group, Kristin, on a hike through the Pyranees. We set off up a very steep track leading up from the Luchon Cemetary and for the next one hour and a half it was straight up. To add insult to injury, the descent had great patches of loose gravel, some of which was very difficult to see as we moved from shade to sun. Peter let it go, and scared himself quite dramatically. Lori and I just about used up all of our brake pads keeping the speed way down. We are going to have dinner here tonight, which will involve lots of discussion of possible "alternate routes" for tomorrow's ...

DAY 8/June 21: Les, Spain to Oust

A travel blog entry by timsparling on Jun 21, 2015

... good so we all agreed. The innkeeper asked us if we wouldn't mind making our choices early so that they could start preparing and we had no problem with that. Once we sat down at 7:45pm, the food came from the kicthen quickly. I had the refreshing seafood salad, the delicious white fish main course, and one hell of a nice chocolate mousse cake for dessert. We ate outside on the patio; it was a gorgeous evening. And we wrapped up by about ...
