Walked into town and had my haircut. A great feeling to have it cut after so long. Then to the bakery to say hi to Eva. We went for a walk in the afternoon to the Makkum beach and a quiet beer. Stood near the Sas Bridge and control tower, and watched as the road/bike/pedestrian bridge was raised for shipping traffic. An early morning start for me to get to Roelof and Janny's place in Gorredijk. Then we were off to Urk, a fishing village which was once an island. The weather was great to sit outside and enjoy coffee and lunch and a stroll around the village.
We returned to Gorredijk and then rode bicycles through the woods and countryside to find a lovely quiet place to enjoy afternoon tea, in the sunshine.

... we are doing a seven day trip by boat that involves getting off the boat each day and cycling about 50 km each day. The cycling part is self-guided so every night we receive a briefing from our ride leader Willamena and then each day we set off independently with a map in hand and a list of numbers we follow on signs along the way.
