... Mid August (well at least that's what I think the sign said!) No problem, I had found somewhere else, (Inventive Repair - http://www.inventiverepair.nl/nl/home.h tml) but that was 40mins back towards Amsterdam. Not a problem of they can help, after all I've not got all the time in the world. 2 hrs later and 120euros lighter they had fixed the bed by putting in a stronger bracket, clamped the broken window shut and sent me off to the nearest garage - Hylkema Peugeot - ...

Today Gitta and Paula drove us over the big Afsluitdyke! I've been wanting to see this! We stopped at the monument and took in the views. There is a monument to the man Lely who was behind the dyke being built. The dyke is 7m above average sea level and about 30km long. Quite a lot of people driving and cycling across today. We stopped a bit further along to have our lunch on the dyke. Very nice. Next a drive down through Friesland to ...

Despite having been to The Netherlands on a prior trip and having close Dutch friends, I didn't know that Holland is a province of The Netherlands. I may have been told a long time ago but had definitely forgotten it. Now I will remember it. Thanks, Rick Steves! We discovered a windsurfing shop on the shore of this lake and I posed the question to the owner. He informed me that kiteboarding was indeed illegal on this lake but that sailing, Stand Up Paddling and windsurfing were both popular and perfectly legal.
