... bit of lunch we all hopped into the car and drove to Grouw . This is a little place 15 kilometers out of Leeuwarden and where the family including Tiny used to go with their boats. Tiny used to sleep in the hotel and her room was permanently booked looking out to where the rest of the family were on the boat. In the morning she would open her window and groan good morning and when they all shouted back good ...

After we got off the boat everybody of course had to have an icecream and then we went to Alie and Thewis house. We sat outside in their garden, the weather had improved to a sunny day and the wind had dropped. Thewis was home as well and it was great to see him I hadn’t seen him since I left Holland ...

Lekkum, Provincie Friesland, Netherlands aliceandmacThis is Zwolle, my new home. I wanted to share a few pictures of the town with you guys and show you how pretty it is. The city is beautiful- plenty of good architecture and flowers everywhere. I love the brickwork on some of these buildings.
Zwolle, Overijssel, Netherlands bamblesToday I met with one of Gyongyi's colleagues, Hans, and his wife Irene, and they took me to Enkhuizen. We visited the Land of Water Museum which is a lovely, old village that is a great representation of a typical early 1900s fishing/farming village. It is my understanding that they actually disassembled houses, shops, etc. and reassembled them on this site to make it as authentic as it possibly could be. There are vegetable gardens ...
Enkhuizen, Noord-Holland, Netherlands cathycross... and this little shop. So - small, very small. Secondly - I'm not a huge fan of antique stores. At all. We walked into this little shop and it was so full of stuff that you didn't know where to start looking first. My habit is to start at the back and work my way forward. Aunty Yanni waschattingg to the lady who owns and runs the place - she's become quite good friends with her since they moved to the village - and mum was going mental over the 50 million teapots they had. I found a ...

After that we had tea and cake in the Orangery which is just across the garden from the Palace. We then jumped on the tube and headed out to Greenwich - famous for Greenwich mean time or whatever it's called - which I didn't know until after we got back which was a bummer because it would've been cool to find out more about it. Mum went ...

Though it would be over a year before I would see my sister again, our farewell as I alighted the train was necessarily brief. But in keeping with our Amazing Race style of travel together with our grandmother through Switzerland, its surrounding countries and Ireland over the previous two months, it was a very fitting way to cross the finish line.
