We left Charleston for a drive along the historic Midland Trail, otherwise known as US 60. A friend of Maggie's grew up in this area, so we had lots of tips from her, as well as a Midland Trail guidebook, on scenic and historic points along the trail. We left Highlands Wednesday morning in a rain storm and stayed in a rain storm most of the day. We found out later our hometown fireworks scheduled for the 4th of July were cancelled due to heavy rains. The southeast mountains have lived up to their rain forest reputation this year.
