... being couped up in a tent in the rain-we invited them to our cabin for the evening. We spent a delightful evening with them-talking till midnight. Their company was awesome! ... to Groningen in good time and a nice man guided us through the backstreets to the city centre, showing us a sneaky way to park our bikes safely and for free in an NCP style car park with attendants watching the bikes for us! We grabbed some more food, looked around the centre and then headed out of the city only to get lost following cycle route signs that simply ran out on us, followed by main roads that wouldn't allow bikes. ... the centre – on a busy market day and with cycling prohibited! Lots of shoppers so took me a while to walk my bike through them.

The rural areas were almost entirely devoid of people, with just the occasional car passing me and the occasional village, with their huge churches and strange pagan-like creations (month of May, fertility symbols, perhaps?), to keep the day a little bit interesting.
