... some time to walk the ancient walls of the town, which afforded it protection at one time.
The guide told us that the town was saved from a bombing by a US military man. Evidently in his boyhood home, his mother had hung a picture of Rottenburg and he had always wanted to visit the town as he was particularly fond of the picture. Years later, when the US troops had planned on ...
... later, you could lower your taxes if you redecorated in the baroque style covering up the timber. As a result you see both kinds of construction, sometimes on the same building. We went to the cathedral but it was not as impressive as others we’ve seen. However, it was built in the 11th century and houses the tombs of Emperor Henry II and Pope Clement II, the only Pope buried in Germany.
Walking through the cathedral square we came to the Old and New ...
... as he was joking around and that he owns all the bikes. I replied with a "Yeah, its a nice bike". He said he couldn't go home that afternoon and was waiting for it. Oh, his personal bike! I quickly got off and said sorry, explaining that it was in the bike shed with all the other bikes and unlocked. He seemed kind of mad but not at me. He just wanted to go home. How embarrassing. We had to ride back into town to get dinner so again ...
Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany unbound... Radler and we waited for our meals. It wasn't too long before the
food came out, Dan's pork knuckle and sourkraut was great, my
shnitzel was tasty so it was a successful lunch. We then went to an
Eis cafe to have an icecream creation. I had a Ferrero Rocher thing,
Dan had an Ameretto thing and that was the end of us...we were full!
We decided to go to the Museum of Medievel Crime and Punishment,

... into Rothenburg we went in search of food..we were a bit aimless at the start..but eventually we found a nice place to eat in a courtyard and Dan had a loin of pork, I had a jagerschnitzel..which wasn't a schnitzel at all, but meat with mushroom sauce and it was pretty good indeed :) We chatted to some Americans at the next table that were contractors for the US government over in Germany here.. they had been here 4 years and were staying for another 4 before going back ...
Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany jasndan... it was around 8pm. The gate entry was narrow and it had cobblestone roads, you have to have a permit to park in the walls of Rothenburg and our hotel had permission for us to park. The roads were narrow but the town was very pretty and our Gasthaus was easy to find.
The little chick showed us the apartment in broken english, it has 2 rooms one as a living room the other as a bedroom and seperate kitchenette ...
... outside the city. And we were right at the top of the tower, very exposed. It was awesome.
After we climbed down the tower, we stopped at a few more souvenir stores, each of us buying a few more things. So we went back to the rooms to drop stuff off again. By that time we both needed a break from walking, so Derek suggested getting a beer at a café on Market Square. So we did just that.
It was quite lovely, but we needed to head over to the town’s only ...
... atmospheric with a walkway through the cells underneath. The tour with the nightwatchman lived up to it's rep and it felt like we were a scene from the pied piper, he had a huge following the night we went. We did a day trip to bamberg and nuremberg and back to wurzberg ( we liked it). Found the beautiful garden area out the back after walking the walls, too late to explore further as our bus was due to leave. And ...
Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany lilbluaxelotl... Austria for the next three days before I need to be in Munich on Thursday evening. Since it's much cheaper to take the slow, local trains than the high-speed, city-to-city trains and I have more time than money, I'm taking the long, cheap route to Salzburg and will spend most of tomorrow on a train. The good news is that even on the slow trains it's only about two hours from Salzburg to Munich, so I won't have much travel time coming back on Thursday.
Seßlach, Germany laura1... and some pieces of chopped apple floating in it. I really liked it. Must make it at home for u when I get back.
Friday we watched another movie in class. This one was called 'Alles im Zucker'. It tells the story of two jewish brothers and their families and is set in 1991. One family is from the east and one from the west. It was made by the same director as Lola if u know it. It was a comedy and much easier to understand than the one last week. I enjoyed it. The movie finished ...
