Escaped the heat

After a great tip from Jane, we decided to head south to the beach at Port Elliot and not north to the v hot hills.

Port Elliot is near Victor Harbour, a plesant, quiet town. There's even a digital community radio station. Seems everyhwere in Sth Aus has a forecast of 40-45 degress today except this region ...

Voted off the island!

John and I were voted off the island today and we have headed to our next desination. We spent the last few days on the Island in basic accomodation ($10 the first night and $5 the next) and it was magic. There was noone else at our campgrounds and we spent the days relaxing and exploring. But by today we had had enough of the island so we hoped on the ferry a day early and we are now at Christies Beach, 40 mins from the airport and not far ...

Beautiful Day!!

Absolutely beautiful day here!! The first true blue day we have had and it stayed that way all day - in fact we still have the door of the kombi open at 6.15pm when we would normally close shop at about 4.30 cause its so cold. We walked the causeway to Granite Island off Victor Harbour - its made of granite (obviously) and is home to fairy penguins and other creatures. It also has a horse drawn ...

Great Ocean Rd Tour: Sights, hikes, koalas & roos

... sleeping or eating eucalyptus leaves - classic! It took most of the afternoon to work our way down the Ocean Road, and we arrived at the most famous spot and the highlight of this portion of the trip - The Twelve Apostles. They are giant remnants of the limestone coastline due to years of erosion from surf and rain. Since the coastline is constantly changing, it is likely these formations won't exist in the future - one fell about 5 years ago - so it was great to capture them in ...

Watch this space! 21 days to go !

... 4 GB card gives 3 hours of recording, and this is the way I will go, using several of these instead of using a big 32GB card, which could get corrupted or lost. This was also why I didn't want a HDD camera, what if you lose the camera? uploading to a small computer isn't practical and uploading to You Tube is just too slow. Several people have been kind enough to email us with suggestions as to our trip, please ...

70 days to go! and The Shed is finished!

... mattress and moved in, just a few finishing touches to complete! And it is only 70 days to go before we leave for our motor homing adventure in Europe. My arm got twisted to extend for another two weeks to spend in the UK, so we return the motor home to Frankfurt as planned, but instead of flying home we fly to London to spend 2 weeks with daughter Trudy who lives there. So I guess we will see a bit more of the UK than we ...

Barking up the gum trees

... Oz without spending any money other than our bus/train fares. Claire is loving it too and really getting into the country living. I think it helps that she can tan during the day and read all evening too tho!! We had a huntsman spider in the flat there this morning and whereas before she may have freaked out now she just remains calm and politely asks/orders me to please put it outside so we are on the right track. We flew (offsetting our carbon emissions!) down to Adelaide ...

Weihnachten in den Adelaide Hills

Day 7 - 13 Port Elliot

Day 7 - 13 (306) Robe to Port Elliot Sun Dec 7th The drive to Port Elliot along a coastal road, reminded me of the Gipplsand Lakes. The Coorong National Park is located on the land that separates the sea from Lake Alexandina, similar to Bunga Arm near Raymond Island. There was also that attractive algae bloom on top so I felt right at home... Dave and Sally Haskard told us we had to visit a winery called Bleasedale in Langhorne creek on the way through, under sufferance ...

Port Elliot

A very charming town where we made a brief stopover for lunch. At the Foreshore, we had lunch at Flying Fish Cafe, which was recommended by Lonely Planet, as well as by one of the ladies we spoke to at the cellar doors, so we know we should not miss this place. Lunch crowd was good and the cafe was rather full so we had to squeeze ...
