... look a bit like blue chickens with red beaks and were thought to be extinct until a breeding pair were discovered in the 60s. From these the population is now up to about 300 and growing. There were 2 in the park here. After coffee and cake we went back outside and chatted with another older NZ couple and one of the keepers about the Pukeko, another endangered bird. There call is very distinctive, except the one they have here was never taught i t as was ...

We're woken early by the lorries thundering down the main road, carrying the cows, sheep and logs for processing. Drove to and down the side of Lake Taupo with lovely views and lots of places to stay the night in a camper, and a lot quieter and with better views than our stop the previous night. We went down a long track to see Wairakei thermal valley, which turned out to be some Old kiwi running an odd coffee ...

... very well maintained. Napier was heavily damaged in the earth quake of 1931 and was rebuild with the architectural style of the period what we call now Art Deco. It has a grandeur aura than South Beach in Florida, with some bigger and more prominent structures. The most photogenic is the open concert area with the round stage. I enclose some pictures I took and we drove out of town. ...
