Day 24 - Paringa to Mildura

... has invested a bit in its road infrastructure. As soon as we crossed the border into Victoria (about 20kms into the ride), the shoulders were wide and quite smooth, which mean't we could stay on the shoulder in single file all the way to Mildura, thus letting the trucks, caravans and cars go merrily by without too much danger to us riders.

The landscape was quite flat, in what ...

Silverton to Mildura

After another look at Mad Max's Car and Silverton we headed south through the saltbush to Mildura. We were all very excited when we hit border into Victoria. We set up camp on the banks of the very picturesque Murray River and went into town to see a lock and a paddleboat.

Final week in Aus

... got involved in the dressups and looked great. Mind you it was amazing that we made it to tea as Mums insane driving continued throughout the day. Thursday the last day at home involved repacking for the 3rd time, heading to the cinema to see the luke warm movie 'The proposal' and Mum making a collage at the table at Office works while I created a coloured masterpiece of the world dressed as a pirate.
Plotting and Planning

... must-sees all worked out. With two weeks to go, we've sorted out the itinerary for our brief visit to Cambodia, worked out some rough costs, booked our accommodation and started a packing list. The countdown has started! What's funny Shaun and I have matching OnePlanet backpacks. This was not even deliberate as they are older than our relationship. We're going to look so naff walking the streets as a pigeon pair, or maybe we'll pull off the elusive "we ...

... and others) come from all over the world to work the vineyards and earn a few dollars before heading on to their next adventure. We had been calling MADEC since January to find out when the grapes would be ready. MADEC is the central contact of harvest work in the area. Normally the grape harvest starts in early February, but still was not happening as of the 10th of February. We decided to go into the Shepparton ...

Grapes, grapes and more grapes!

... favourite place for nights out! Good way to get to know people quickly too! I start work on the Monday. I'm working at a big farm picking and packing. This means picking the grapes which have ripened to the correct colour, cleaning them (trimming off all the dry/rotten/soft fruit) and packing them on scales into boxes of 9.5kg. Packing is not that easy as the bunches have to be packed upside down so all the berries are showing on top and ...

... next weekend- parties everywhere so they say! Todays drive is just about 2 hours - so not too taxing for a still sniffing jim. This part of victoria - yes another border and time change again -confused.com - is the citrus fruit and vineyard area - there are trees everywhere laden with oranges and lemons and lots of famous wineries too - lindemans, banrock station to name a couple that we were familiar with. Think france is gonna lose ...
