... away. After a few hours we got our wish and saw the mountain, and later met quite a few climbers on their way down off the top. They said with good weather and conditions you can go from the DOC office to the top and back down in 8-10 hours! We were pretty happy just to sit and eat lunch with a great view of both the mountain and the Tasman Sea. Going down should have taken us two-three hours but with the blue skies we stretched to an all day tour ...
New Plymouth, North Island, New Zealand abcanares... 45 entlanggetuckert und einige Male den Schildern 'Surf Beach" gefolgt. Komischerweise waren keine Surfer sichtbar. Lag doch wohl nicht an der Kaelte, oder? Eigentlich war es gestern sogar warm. Die Sonne schien durchgehend, es war keine Wolke in Sicht und ich bin zwischenzeitlich sogar im T-Shirt unterwegs gewesen.

Fast die ganze Zeit hatte ich Blick auf einen enormen Berg, der eigentlich ein Vulkan ist. Mt. Egmont heisst er, in Maori Taranaki und er ...
New Plymouth, North Island, New Zealand mirja... entladen, es war einfach alles nass. Taranaki musste Sebastian ubernehmen. Ab Morgen bin Ich wieder alleine unterwegs...
New Plymouth, North Island, New Zealand cutbutWe started out our day thinking we would head on north and see where we would stay for the night...our goal was at least to get to New Plymouth. Our first thought was breakfast so we ask at our hotel for a recommendation and headed there. It was good enough and they were a Pepsi account. All the better. As we started our trek for the day we are feeling like we have come to the end of our sightseeing and how could we possibly top what we have seen or done thus ...
New Plymouth, North Island, New Zealand pauldebiIt had been pouring down all night and was still raining as we got up. The rain had stopped as we set off through the busy Wellington streets and soon were heading north on Hwy 1. The highway ran alongside the harbour coast on one side, with a steep hillside covered in houses on the inland side. We learned during the weekend that there are more houses in Wellington that have small, domestic cable car systems to reach them, because they are on hillsides, than anywhere else. The road ...
New Plymouth, New Zealand harryandnorah... my English festival experience!) Saw some great bands and generally had a good time frolicking in fields and doing festivally things. Had to stay for another 2 days in New Plymouth to look for cars and celebrate St Patricks Day (Rich's family are Irish). Eventually managed to find a car in a 2nd hand dealers which was more expensive than the first, but according to many people should be very realiable and last us more than ...
New Plymouth, New Zealand noodle1505... It was a short hop of a flight, only 30 minutes and we ended our initial travels at 7pm on Tuesday, February 19th. That was a lot of traveling but well worth it. We were greeted at the New Plymouth airport by Jesse's cousins Chris and Pam. We had a wonderful dinner at Gusto's along the Tasman Sea. We went back to Chris and Pam's house in Oakura (our home base for our stay in NZ). We stayed up late talking ...
Oakura, New Zealand jesse_and_karla03-Feb: Woke up early this morning from the Eco Lodge YHA in New Plymouth (west coast of North Island). It's a well established township with lots of buildings at the coastal area facing the Tasman Sea. There are also lots of farming & grazing lands - the grass seems greener here due to more rainfall. Many big churches too. However, I can't join church service today because a van will transfer me to The Camphouse at Mt Taranaki at 7.30am. Mt ...
New Plymouth, New Zealand foochenwee... Cook who renamed Mt Taranaki, Mt Egmont in order to try and get in with Lord Egmont. The name stuck for quite sometime, even being used to name the national park which Taranaki sits in (Egmont National Park), although most now recognise the true and original name of this amazing mountain. One other thing about Mt Taranaki is its alleged striking resemblence to Mt Fuji in japan - so much so that it was used as Mt Fuji when the film with Tom Cruise, The Last Samuri, was ...
New Plymouth, New Zealand kevandrach... Lake. Marvellous. The place was completely deserted and I had this whole beautiful scene to myself. What more could there be to life? I made it back to New Plymouth at about 6pm and stopped off at a KFC for a quick snack. Whilst in KFC I had the pleasure of witnessing some girls trying to break into their car with a screwdriver and coathanger. Classy. I got back to my motel at about 8pm and then made some dinner and watched some mindless TV before bed.
