TWO DAYS IN ALBANIA

... a wi-fi signal is easier then finding a place to plug in. Finding somebody who speaks English seems to be even harder. In these parts, outside of a few people in the tourist industry it's mute barter and wishful thinking. Smile a lot; it helps. Hardest of all is using a credit card. Supposedly I guarantee all my advance ho(s)tel bookings with my credit card with the threat of being charged a night's rent if I no-show, but I can't believe they ...

... down........ and I smilled...... because this country has no pretentions...... what you see is exactly what you get...... the road was bumpy and the Mercedes was flying and avoiding any nasty collisions with the other Mercedes........... because you see the Republic of Shqiperia - a.k.a. Albania - went throught the nineties in a lawless ride..... and part of the fun in those days was to go to Western Europe and steal as many Mercedes as ...

... financial resources building close to 700,000 concrete bunkers up and down the country in order to repel any invasion. I also knew that these bunkers were so strong they could withstand a full tank assault, a fact put to the test when the chief designer and engineer was forced to stand inside a bunker while it was being bombarded by a tank. Interesting facts I think you will agree but all rather useless in the grand scheme of things. It was for this reason and with the words of the ...

He followed us all around the site and in the end lost his reservations and came over for constant petting and enjoyed having his picture taken. The Tirana Park also has many dogs running around (mostly in packs here), who knows, maybe one day we'll just go there and adopt a puppy!

... country has its problems but the situation is far better than the years of communism when they were never allowed to leave their own country. There are two electricity blackouts per day (totaling 5 hours) and the roads are definitely the most dangerous I've ever seen. Our apartment balcony overlooked the main square and we sat entertained for 3 hours watching people have near death experiences. During the blackouts the traffic lights are turned off which has ...

How fast can you get through Albania?

... since there was only one gentleman (seated in front of us) who could translate, the language barrier won the situation and I couldn't do a damn thing. The air vents were closed for the rest of the trip, the air got warm and stale, plus the seats didn't recline, this was just simply unbearable. So, I didn't sleep the entire night, got mighty upset and poor Tammy had to see me practically loose it. Eventually, the bus ride was over ...

... Elbasani street. He saw that we were actually on that street, and we got out of the vehicle only seven buildings away from the hostel. We walked in a moment later and got the last two open beds! I have never found a place to stay so quickly. We needed a bite to eat and stopped into "Subway" to get a sandwich. Not the "Subway" that we know and love back in N. America, though, but a local business pirating the name and logo. They sell doner ...
