    In 1996 work on a new road outside of Lod, Israel uncovered a spectacular set of mosaics dating from the 3rd century. Part of a roman villa, the central mosaic is the largest and best preserved from anywhere in the Levant. This central section was lifted and preserved and is now a touring exhibition, supported by the Rothschild Foundation. They have some really beautiful china, although some have not dated so well. One, which I think was called the rockingham collection, had lots of greenery, fruit and vegetables in the pattern.     One country down....Five to go. We are sad to leave England. It has been a wonderful time. However, we are ready for warmer weather! It is going to be in the mid-80's. Yeah!
