    The Lod mosaic

In 1996 work on a new road outside of Lod, Israel uncovered a spectacular set of mosaics dating from the 3rd century. Part of a roman villa, the central mosaic is the largest and best preserved from anywhere in the Levant. This central section was lifted and preserved and is now a touring exhibition, supported by the Rothschild Foundation. The only place it is visiting in the UK is Waddesdon Manor, the country estate built by Baron Rothschild ...

    Road Trip!

Having seen the traffic trying to get into London when we left, we decided it would be wise to drive to Heathrow the night before our flight and stay somewhere nearby. Since the UK is tiny, this was not really an all day proposition, so we planned some stops along the way.

... exhibition was fantastic, you weave your way through the ship getting a first hand experience of how things worked and what it was like to live onboard. The only downside was a large groups of primary school kids spiralling out of control! After we headed to leister square, checked out the ever so expensive but amazing m&m world. 4 levels of all sorts of m&m's, figurines, clothes, golf balls, key rings... You name it, it came with m&m on it! After we wondered ...

Dan offered to take us out to see one of the local grand estates, Waddesdon, which is approximately forty five minutes from home.

Waddesdon is owned by the Rothschild family, and was used for their social gatherings rather than as a family home. It is now managed by the National Trust. The grand ...
