Hi Fellow Travelers;
Following a couple of frustrating experiences trying to put together and post this daily blog, I have decided to take a different approach to letting you know what is happening at regular intervals. I’m so inefficient in terms of using my computer and the blog website, that I …
Went down to breakfast in the hotel lobby at 7:15. The spread had cereal, fruit, yogurt, breads, pastries, cheeses, bacon and other meats, and a variety of other options. At 8:30 we loaded the bus for the first time, and learned that my father and I would need to share a seat, as it was rather full. Once everyone had arrived, we made our way around …
The knock on the bedroom door from my father came at 4am, to signify that it was time to wake up. After giving myself a haircut and taking a shower, I grabbed a bowl of oatmeal. We were whisked away by my sister Deb and brother-in-law Jeral, who were gracious enough to give us a ride to the Portland Airport, about a 45 minute drive. The flight …

We had booked a double deluxe room at the hotel and when we got there was only a smoking room (who does that anymore smoking in hotel rooms) so we checked it out, it was seedy and disgusting. So they down graded us to a different floor smaller room but one that was actually what we paid for and not like we had check in for some afternoon delight at a brothel!

Historical Traveler Reviews First Hotel Vesterbro Copenhagen
This hotel is about a 5 minute walk from Central Station and Tivoli Gardens. The hotel is clean and all facilities are satisfactory. They have complimentary coffee/Tea/Juice and Danishes in the reception area for breakfast, aswell as a nicer breakfast in their restaurant. I would definately stay here again.
I was apprehensive about booking this hotel but since
Excellent Hotel, Excellent Service
My wife and I stayed at the hotel during a trip in October. I was nervous booking the hotel online, via hotels, as it was the first time I'd used the service for an international hotel. I shouldn't have worried. The hotel was great, with a nice location (near the train station) and great rooms. The first room that we were given had an annoying hum from the a/c unit. A quick call to the desk had us in an identical room on another floor. No problems at all with that one.The breakfast was great, the location by the train station was nice, and the high speed internet in the rooms added a nice touch. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat.
I was at this hotel twice, so I was able to notice the difference of service between peak and off-peak season. In July this hotel, as well as the city, was full of tourists, so getting breakfast in the mornings was a struggle for life: everything is self-service and the staff never managed to keep the pace when refilling the buffet with foods, drinks, plates, cutlery etc, not to mention the difficulty in finding a place to sit. There were also problems with the housekeeping: once I got back very late at night and found the bed without any sheets or pillowcases, certainly the chambermaid had been interrupted when doing the room, and never completed the job, so I had to call the poor guy at frontdesk for help. I would recommend this place only in off-peak season, and only for a short stay (max 2 nights) because the wardrobes are very small.
Overpriced but nice
We stayed at the First Hotel Vesterbro the night before a cruise of the Baltic Sea. The location was excellent; we were able to walk in five minutes to Tivoli Gardens and in about ten minutes to the city center.
The breakfast buffet was amazing. The rooms were very expensive and small but very clean and modern, overlooking the street with its Danish architecture. I would definitely recommend it!
This hotel was a massive disappointment that did not live up to its reputation. The rooms were worn, with broken bathroom fittings and none of the amenities that one would expect from a first class hotel. I booked a twin room, non-smoking for myself and my child, but when I arrived no such room was available. After suffering a lecture from the hotel manager on why I should not have booked the room over the internet, he gave me an upgrade to a room that was about 3 m2 larger than the first room. They brought in a day bed for my child, but left a dirty pillowcase hanging off the end of it. I would never stay here again.
We recently had the pleasure of staying at the First Hotel Vesterbro.
It is a modern hotel near the Central Train Station. I can't say enough good things about the staff. Everyone there was extremely helpful and friendly, including the manager. The room was comfortable, but small by American standards and came equipped with a minibar. The buffet breakfast, which was included in our room rate, was very extensive. The enclosed atrium provided a pleasant atmosphere in which to enjoy our meal.
Good value room and breakfast
We enjoyed our stay at First Vesterbro, not least because the weekend that we visited (Aug. 1-3) was a very hot and sticky one, and this hotel has air-conditioning! We did find our room hot upon arrival, but we got the A/C started and went out to walk around for an hour to find temperatures more pleasant.
The room was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious. The breakfast buffet was excellent. First Vesterbro is located in the hotel district around Copenhagen's main train station, so it's no better or worse than others in terms of location. Not as charming as some hotels I've stayed in, but having A/C on a hot and humid summer's day is worth more than charm!
Good Value - Good Location
I had two stays at the First Hotel Vesterbro in six weeks and was very pleased both times. Rooms are smart, clean, and good size. Each floor has a security door, which gave me a little extra comfort in an unfamiliar city. A 15 minute walk from Stroget, and 5 minutes from the main station. Not much in the immediate neighborhood, but still well located. Check-in is usually very busy, and I ran into bus loads twice, but if you can check in late and out early, you'll avoid this. The breakfast buffet is worth paying to have it included with the room.
Food is simple but good, and plenty of it. Not the cheapest hotel, but a good value for the quality of the rooms and the location.
I regularly visit Copenhagen, and whenever possible I stay at the First. It is well located, has excellent ammenities and good-sized rooms. When I couldn't get my laptop connection to work and their business centre was closed, they let me use a PC in their back office - even though it was 10pm! Other hotels in this price bracket just don't compare.
