    Short Long Ride

After a peaceful night and watching the sun go down on the midnight sun beach it was just a short drive today, just 200km to get to the Swedish coast. En route we visited Sweden's only working Linen Mill at Vaxbo where amazingly having pulled a cord. a sliding glass sound proofed door opened and we were allowed to follow the blue painted line on the floor of the mill, walking right next to working looms. Some of these dated back to the 1920's and had ...

We slept well, no anchors to worry about and arose from our pit to a glorious, bright sunny day. The sort of day that cries out to dry laundry and thus motivated, we did a couple of machine-loads and festooned the boat with drying washing. Our plan for the day was to go into Söderhamn, to have a look around and of course, to call in at the Systembolaget to replenish my beer stocks. However, we were constrained by bus times and the best one available ...

We had a restful night, managing to ignore the occasional sounds emanating from the seabed just below us. Checking the forecast, there was no wind promised but thunder and lightning were. Today we had two choices, another anchorage about 20 something miles away or a harbour called Sandarne, just over 50 miles to the north. We decided that we would make a final choice as we neared our anchorage and with that, we were off by 08:00, ...

... spot, more like a lay-by, 20 metres from the E4 which is full of traffic. Some picnic spots or motorway service areas charge for an overnight spot often up to 300 SEK and they are not the best! This place is OK, other folk are here but also noisy though free. All the facilities a motorhomers needs are available though. A long day with 12 hours on the road, except for stops of course, but what one would expect when heading up to the edge of the Arctic ...

    Chasing the Midnight Sun!

I did not expect Sweden to be this green! As we drove north, the spruces, firs, birches, waved us along and the road was fringed with beautiful wild lupins! We tried to take as little of the highway as possible, preferring the smaller roads along the coast which showed us so much more!

Our first stop was a short visit to the Uppsala cathedral and castle and on we went to Gävle, which is supposed to be a pretty town and one ...
