Today was a pretty awesome day. I've had a lot of adrenaline highs but never from work! Today was a new kind of experience, but just as great a feeling as traveling.

Had breakfast with the normal breakfast group. At lunch I sat down with some people I hadn't met yet- a German scientist, a professor and his student from Korea, an Indian scientist, and a Japanese man from NIES (National Institute for Environmental Studies). They were all very ...

Oslo, Oslo, Norway cariverga... out all the other Australians in the backpackers to me, as if I must want to talk to them just because they come from my country. He was harmless enough though and in the end it was just amusing to listen to him jabbering on, I realised that you didn't even really need to respond, he just wanted to talk. He finally got up the courage to comment on my hairstyle while we were in the shuttle. It must have been ...
Oslo, Norway lingo83... that was pretty cool. Annie was more amused by the "secret passage" which was a walkway that went around the entire church.

We then saw the Viking Ship Museum. Although I was thrilled, Nick was about at the end of his patience with museums. In the beginning, it was "Oh, cool - look at this Mom" but by now he was saying "are we done looking at museums?" I guess it was a good thing that it didn't take us too long to get through, but ...
Oslo, Oslo, Norway larzstarz... on deck 8 looking at the GPS map and out the window. As the masses finished eating most communal spaces became busy like they had the night before. Distinctive groups of guests travelling with us were the bunch of Dutch people proudly showing their orange as they were travelling to support a sporting team of some sort and also the hoardes of loud children running everywhere. It is a bit of a family affair but parents should take note that the cabin doors are not that ...
Oslo, Oslo, Norway v1213... with pine nuts, Port Wine reduction and Walnut Bread. While good, it wasn't really memorable. After that was the dessert plate. Iced Cointreau Parfait, Vanilla apple compote in a Brandy Snap shell, and a beautiful chocolate sculpted piece that tasted as good as it looked. Then the chef joined us again for homemade biscotti and Cappuccino to answer any questions we had. It was amusing that all the other people at the table were asking about how many pounds of this or ...
Oslo, Oslo, Norway simru12... but the lobby is happening - and then slept for about 14 hours. Today we wandered a little through downtown Oslo, took at least one more long nap, and reunited with Lea's bag, delivered as promised by the airline to our hostel. We spend one more night at Anker tonight before embarking on the Norway in a Nutshell tour, part I (details to follow). Hope all is well back home! Lea and Dan
Oslo, Oslo, Norway lea-and-dan... was a YHA and was quite nice, again £13 a night. While i was waiting to check in i got talking to a guy who was fixing up a racing bike. His wife had died from cancer in October and he was in training to do a charity cycle from one end of Britain to the other. He was also telling me that he had walked the West Highland way a few years ago to raise money for the same hospice as his wife's mother had also died of cancer. He was a remarkable man and I'm disgusted that i cant ...
Oslo, Oslo, Norway talamarkohi... Soo Today we slept in and then as usual took the bus into Oslo. Melanie dragged me around while she did some xmas shopping and then a birthday give for Julia. Unfortunatly somewhere along the way she lost the birthday gift so we had to run around again and get another one. After that we took the bus ...
Oslo, Norway leejes4Becki, Sean, Laura and I decided on a last minute trip to Oslo for the weekend. We decided to take the train... On the way there the train was pretty much full with sailors and soldiers. Had anyone tried to attack the Oslo-bound train from Stavanger I think we would have been well protected. The train ride was eight hours long so even though we left in the afternoon it was midnight by the time ...
