... we passed through security who checked the large locker, under the sofa and in the back storage area, it's a good job we didn't stow away any of those cats and dogs! We then cooked tea and settled in for the long wait at dock no. 5. Other vehicle began to arrive, wagons, white vans, a camper van, an overlander built on a small wagon chassis and cars, the occupants wandered about, some chatting in groups, the wagon drivers sat at the side of the vehicles and cooked ...

We left the ship late and spent some time using the Port's free wifi. We were heading to the bus stop to take a bus into town when we ran into an enterprising taxi driver. He was waiting at the bus stop instead of in the line of taxis looking for €100 fares to tour the island. He offered us a €10 trip to the historic district and the same back. We found ...

... was our last former Yugoslav state as we crossed the border the following day into Albania. Speaking with a few other drivers Albania has gained a pretty poor reputation for motorhome travel. We had been told of terrible road conditions, being stuck for hours in road works, minimal tarmac and wild drivers. The border crossing went smoothly enough, without the offer of classic Baltic buy-at-the-border insurance. Nervously, we entered and ...

... far from the boarder and we expected that it would take about half an hour from the boarder crossing until we felt a change of direction, so when we pulled over for a few minutes at around that point but then continued heading north we could tell that something wasn't right. We approached the bus driver and asked how much longer it would be until we arrived in Sarande. 'No Sarande,' he replied, 'Fier'. We did our best to communicate with him as he didn't speak much English and we ...
