Un'ora esatta e sono a Firenze: no acqua e no traffico; in senso contrario, qualche moto di rientro dal GP del Mugello.

... found an empty spot (a feat in itself in other towns!) As we went up to the church, we saw that all of the rich color was actually a mosaic. I don’t know that any of us could really comprehend the work that it took to create such a large mosaic on such a structure. We wandered a few of the streets, which seemed to be heavily populated with artisans hand-making their wares in their shops. One of them was a purse maker that I pointed out to Kristi. ...

The next morning we headed back into the center and got our bus tickets and walked through the local craft show. Then we were back on the road home, to Florence. And after getting there and back safely we gained a confidence in our ability to travel on our own and not with a program like bus2alps or florence for fun. ...

First stop today was the Church of San Domenico, which is where St Catherine took her vows. Saint Catherine is the patron saint of Siena (and of all of Italy) so they have a great fondness for her. So much so that her embalmed head and finger are preserved in little glass cases in the San Domenico Church. It's possible to see all the detail - urgh!! Also her whip which she used to flog herself to give sinners a better life, is in ...

Orvieto's chief glory is its duomo, the splendid cathedral, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was begun before 1285, perhaps by Arnolfo di Cambio, on the ...
