Firefly Hotel Mustique

... so that we could see into the volcano crater and take photos………but ……nothing. It was too cold to wait motionless for long – so it was time to retrace our steps back to the minibus for a celebratory rum punch! Fun!

That cloud heralded our only run of bad weather…..and boy, does it know how to rain in the Caribbean!......so, many crosswords and sudokus later, it was off to the airport for our flight to Barbados!

... heavy seas were beam on all the way. The ferry rolled from 45 degrees on one side to 45 degrees on the other....imagine the pendulum on a grandfather clock - quadruple its movement and then invert it - that's how lovely the ride from Bequia to St. Vincent was. But we did it, and neither of us seasick - not that we didn't feel like it - just couldn't afford to let go with either white knuckled hand. But hey - there we were in Kingstown - St. Vincent!

Then it was off to Barbados and thence, on a tiny little plane, to Mustique. Charlie met us and we have had 2 wonderful weeks of this paradise island - tennis, yoga, walking, turtle nest digging, sun, sea, white sand, beautiful bays (mostly deserted), snorkelling and socialising (cocktail parties etc.) + lots of reading and siestas because doing nothing is sooo exhausting. ... dinning, to the standard seafood buffets. We ate at them all. I have to say that other than La Piazza and La Varenne, the wine lists were limited, and we would often have someone from the other restaurants fetch us a bottle from there. ... extra day of snafu time so I should be okay. If I hadn't stayed an extra day to change one last batch of SRD into Euros I might be there already, but that would mean three nights in Georgetown, hardly a thrill, and almost certainly costlier than where I am now. A hundred here and a hundred there can add up quickly, especially in a region that's not especially cheap to begin with. All's well that ends well, so I'm optimistic that there'll be a ferry ...

... there is live music under the stars playing somewhere, all you have to do is follow your ears. The biggest party on the island is the weekly Thursday Night Jump Up at the Frangipani. Starting with a three course dinner of char-boiled steaks, shrimp, pastas, tropical fruits and the most delectable deserts in the Caribbean, this all night party quickly becomes a mass of drinking and dancing to steel drum music on ...

Tobago Cays must really be one of the most beautiful places in the Caribbean! They consist of a small string of tiny uninhabited islands with palm fringed beaches, lush green shrubs and beaches so white you'll think they're made of powder sugar!
